if you had to pick a state to live in based on gun laws, which would you pick?

i've been thinking about this a lot recently. i liked ohio, since there was no seller's database, ftf sales of handguns and longarms were allowed, and so on. then i realised that i disliked a lot about the state too. signs have force of law, they used to have this weird law that required magazines had to be unloaded for car transport (a loaded magazine was considered a firearm) and there is also a "duty to inform".

every state seems to have some give and take with basic gun laws. texas seems to be regarded fairly high on the list of gun rights, but a ban on open carry and brandishing laws really should count against it. it seems that the culture of the state, however, is very gun friendly.

i always regarded montana as a pretty gun friendly state (though constitutional carry narrowly failed there, iirc) but just found out that it is illegal to carry in a bank there.

so, with just a cursory examination, i think arizona would be a decent gun state, with a lack of pennsylvania winters being a great bonus. haha

what have you guys found? what are some states where the people are not terrified of firearms, even if the laws don't reflect it?

I REALLY love PA. Seriously, I think we have some of the best gun freedoms in the country. The only thing holding us back from being perfect is if we didn't need LTCFs and were able to carry firearms as long as we weren't prohibited persons.

There are only a small handful of states that are better than PA in that regard, but when you consider other factors, PA seems to be the best place to live. That's coming from someone who has been to almost every state.

The only real issue that PA has is lack of constitutional carry. For most people that's only an issue in principle, but not in practice, since PA is a shall-issue state.

The biggest reason why I love PA is the fact that there are ZERO bans on any type of guns (unless you count the ban on explosives). In addition there are ZERO bans on carrying in certain private establishments, such as bars, malls, movie theaters, etc. So you are essentially allowed to carry any gun you want, concealed or openly, anywhere you want. What more can you ask for? Okay, constitutional carry, I know. That's about it.

Based strictly on gun laws it's Arizona. I know everyone thinks about it as blistering hot, but they do have mountains and snow. There are green parts of the state where the temp doesn't get to 120 like in Phoenix or Tempe

Quite happy in PA. Considering that I came from CA back in 2006 PA at times feels like "anything goes". AZ is awesome. I spent some time in Tucson in my early 20s and absolutely loved it.
The law? The law is a human institution...

I can't think of any type of restriction that affects me in pa. I can pretty much carry whatever i want, wherever i want whenever i want.

The only thing better about AZ is constitutional carry. They also have:

-Mandatory training for permits (which are required to conceal while in a vehicle)

-No carry in places that serve alcohol without a permit (and no open carry), and no consumption of alcohol while carrying. (not even ONE drink)

-Cannot discharge firearms on your own property with some narrow exceptions

-No carry in polling places on election day

if I had to choose any place other than PA, it'd be VT. It's beautiful, filled with lovely people, and just.....right.
