Illinois Dems advance ban on most modern firearms.

Slick sons of bitches.

Quote:Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups.

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”

Quote:Gun manufactures in Illinois have already threatened to leave the area if laws limiting guns are put in place. ArmaLite owner Mark Westrom told FoxNews.com that he’s been fielding offers from at least two others states to move his operation if gun control laws in Illinois are pushed through.

Illinois Senate Dems put off votes on gun ban, gay marriage

By BRIAN BRUEGGEMANN — News-Democrat

The Illinois Senate has scrapped plans to vote this week on a controversial ban on certain types of guns as well as a proposal to legalize gay marriage.

Senate Democrat leaders announced Thursday they did not have enough votes to pass their measures on the two issues.

"It is clear that we will need bipartisan support in order to take floor votes on gun safety and marriage equality this week. We will take some time to work on these important issues to advance them in the near future," the Senate Democratic caucus said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

I had to do a double-take. They couldn't even get sufficient support in Illinois??

I am surprised they wised up a bit, but even a certified idiot can't ignore the volume and speed with which people are buying guns and applying for CCW licenses.

Sure, it's Illinois, but they have to look around and see that there's not really a groundswell of support for such measures anywhere. Too far reaching, even with dead kids at Christmas, and Christmas has come and gone. Short Attention Span Theater is now playing all across America.

They're just waiting for the next 'event' to pull this out, so they can fast track it when emotions are running high.

What happens if the next "event" is someone shooting up these legislators. Its only a matter of time until some start to say enough is enough and take matters into their own hands. Im not advocating this but I can see it happening.

That wouldn't work. It wouldn't generate any public sympathy and outrage for the victims. It would probably have the opposite effect and embolden a rebellion.
