Illinois Gov. Signs More Gun Control in Law
#1
Quote:Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a new gun-control measure into law Sunday that requires all gun owners, including private citizens, to check the background of the person buying the gun.
Under previous legislation, adults only had to undergo a background check if they were buying guns at a licensed firearm shop or at a gun show in the state. Under the new law, gun owners are also required to report any lost or stolen firearms to the police within 72 hours.
"Guns are a plague on too many of our communities," Quinn, a Democrat, said in a statement. "Making sure guns do not fall into the wrong hands is critical to keeping the people of Illinois safe. This commonsense law will help our law enforcement crack down on crime and make our streets safer."

I would love to hear the logic behind the conclusion that laws like this "make our streets safer".

I get so angry when I hear this vomit coming out of politicians mouths. Nothing gets me more mad than people making statements as if they're facts, when they have no basis in reality. I can't help it, I guess it just reminds me too much of my ex-wife. I know... I know... I have issues.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

You don't think the logic that a stolen gun is automatically in the hands of someone who is a lawbreaker isn't sound? You don't think the logic that someone could sell a gun to a prohibited person without a background check isn't sound?

These options do have a basis in reality. They don't address some other issues such as the legality of required permits, 2A considerations, etc. but they are grounded in logic and fact.

ETA: I know I'll get flamed by those who don't pay attention to words, but only to which side they think you fall on. I'm arguing the logic of these two requirements, not the legality.

I agree with your logic, however that is not the part that got me. I don't like laws that have the potential to make an innocent person a criminal by not reporting being a victim of a crime. That's the part that glares out at me. It does nothing to reduce crime (yet has the potential to create more crime). That to me is illogical.
