Illinois governor, vetoes parts of concealed carry gun bill
#1
Quote:(Reuters) - Illinois governor Pat Quinn on Tuesday vetoed parts of a gun bill that would have allowed people to carry more than one gun, carry guns into some places that serve alcohol, and carry a partly exposed gun.

Flanked by parents of gun violence victims, Democrat Quinn said at a press conference that he objected to at least nine provisions of the new Illinois concealed carry measure that was passed by the legislature.

Line item vetoes are total bullshit no matter which side does it at any level of government.

hopefully his veto will be overridden because the original bill passed with a veto-proof majority

I got four minutes in, before I had to turn it off.

This bald headed, pompous, arrogant, turd in a suit will learn his lesson.

The state was under the thought they would get to have some rights for once, and he comes in, and slaps them in the face. He is done.

I'm going to hear one more idiot say the words "common sense" in terms of gun control, and I'm going to have a harsh conversation while still being respectful.

Cause lord knows I wouldn't say what I really feel online. God, I would be banned for a month.

Asshole politicians. Maybe someone will try to mug him.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin

Dunno, but we know the antis will do anything to gut these bills if at all possible.

As stated, line item vetoes suck. Does this mean it goes back to the legislature and they get to put the smack down on his vetoes?

Quote:. . . .

After the press conference, House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, both Democrats, said through aides that they would hold votes on July 9 to override Quinn's veto.

While Quinn's Democratic party has large majorities in the legislature, the issue of gun control has divided the party along urban-rural lines.

Many lawmakers from Chicago, which has experienced a surge in gun violence, want tighter gun control laws. In more rural areas, lawmakers prefer more permissive rules. Both Cullerton and Madigan represent Chicago districts.

If the state legislature votes to accept the changes proposed by Quinn, the revised measure would become law. If the legislature overrides Quinn's veto, the original version would become law. If the proposal becomes law it would be a victory for the National Rifle Association, a powerful lobby for gun owners.

. . . .

Showmanship. He stands his ground but still gets his fanny spanked by the legislature.

I call BS. Gun violence, especially in Illinois is a problem almost exclusive to black urban communities. Where did he even find all these white people to stand around him that were alleged parents of victims?

Ask Barry or Eric. They have all those actors on speed dial. Most likely, they're all on Bloomie's payroll. Wink

This is slightly different as this is "Amendatory Veto". He didn't cross things off, he CHANGED them to his liking.

More individual freedoms for honest, responsible Americans?

You can't be trusted! says the nanny state Dems....I swear they're like obsessive controlling teachers who can't manage their classrooms. One kid misbehaves with a crayon, they're banned and the whole class is punished.
