India creates gun for women

Quote:Priced at Rs 1,22,360, Nirbheek was launched on January 6 and has already received around 80 formal enquiries and over 20 bookings. "At least 80% bookings are from women licensees," says Abdul Hameed, general manager of IOF. Described by arms experts as an Indian hybrid of a Webley & Scott and Smith & Wesson, for its simple mechanism and light frame, it is the smallest revolver made in India — an ideal to fit a purse or a small hand bag.

In a state where government offers arms licences as incentive to achieve wheat procurement and immunization targets, it is not surprising that a total of 11,22,814 persons have licensed arms as per the state home department records. This is over four times the count of firearms available with the Uttar Pradesh Police (2.5 lakh). Hence a ready market already seems in place for Nirbheek.

Lots of problems in India with violence against women.

They could use a little personal security.
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to. Smile

It doesn't look very stylish.
I produced precise formulations for what you call, "Black Powder," for General Washington. If not for me, you would be speaking the Queen's English today. Say my name, which you cannot find with an internet search, proud to be a member of pa2a.org since Sep 2012.

I was thinking the same thing, it looks like a throwback to an earlier period in firearms manufacturing.

Honestly, I like the look of it. I hope it is widely used and carried by women in India, and I especially hope it is very accurate and effective in helping to protect them.

Just did a quick check, and that little puppy sells for around $US 2000.00

Seems as if it's designed to be restricted, by its price, to being purchased by those for whom "money is no object."

It's going to be interesting to see if they decide to export it (they should) and what they'll charge for it over here in order to compete with other imports.

I admit that I like the look of it, and would consider one for, say, $200.00
