Your reply leads me to believe you completely missed the point of my post. Hint: It's not within the part you quoted.

"Possibility"? Oh fuck no. If anyone thinks cops don't profile, statistically speaking at least, they're off their rocker. Not only do cops profile, and people profile but, at a minimum, mammals do as well. This is normal survival behavior. The trick as adult, rational, professional, evolved, and highly trained (dare I say it?) operators is to see profiling for what it is and only employ it when appropriate.

Pop quiz: I wonder if anyone was following along closely enough to get the gist of my post (or it's intention). It ain't rocket surgery. Tongue

Alex is a crabby asshole and you're not?Angel

I get that the overall attitude from either party can affect the outcome, but I also genuinely believe that Alex has encountered more folks with a decidedly negative mindset from the outset than you have, specifically because of the differences in how each of you look (age, ethnicity, dress, etc.).

It ain't right, but it is the reality.

in all that time I have had some awesome conversations with folks. Maybe that gets on your nerves? I hear some folks just want to be left alone.

Have you ever met ByblosHex? Quite white, well spoken, intelligent, makes a good appearance, all IMHO of course. He should have no issues OCing, yet he avoids it, concerned about "someone getting on my nerves."

So I postulated that perhaps it was the area because it sure ain't the color of his skin. Like Viper? See?

Jeepers, if you have to explain the joke... Shrug

No, I got your point the first time around. And people on this area do tend to be....obnoxious. It's why I've become something of a homebody. I was only responding to Greg's comments, as far as the ethnicity thing goes.

The most obnoxious I've had was a cry baby busy body in a Best Buy who followed me through the store while on the phone with the cops. If he felt so threatened, why was he following me?

Besides from that one, which ended in the Philadelphia PD illegally impounding my work's van I haven't had too numerous encounters. Most amount to "Are you a cop? " "No. " " Oh, ok. "

The risk of running into a liberal extremist is real. Judging from some of their relatively common and violent threats towards OCers I generally avoid the practice recently.

It's one of the lifestyle adjustments made when transitioning from a bachelor to a family man.

Today, me and Molly decided to take the kids to Aylesworth Park, in Jermyn (or is it Jessup?). I love this park, and I'm glad we discovered it last year. It's probably one of the better parks in Lackawanna County. Quad trails, big modern playground, picnic areas, and the best part is, Aylesworth Creek runs right through the park, and is open for swimming in.

I don't swim in it; the most I'll do is go in knee deep. I've told Molly that I'll swim with the kids when I buy a Glock or an XD or some similar polymer wündernine. I've also recently begun to carry fixed blades on my belt opposite my gun. I've been fiddling with ways to attach them, and I've settled on using plastic zipties. Today I settled on carrying a CRKT Hissatsu, horizontally, cross body.

I settled down and sat on our "beach" blanket, and kept an eye on the kids and Molly, from about 50' away. Every once in awhile, someone would walk by, and I'd get the occasional odd look. One lady, sitting to my left, struck up a conversation, about the usual stuff strangers discuss while sitting by a creek in a park: the heat, the humidity, loud kids, and yadda yadda yadda.

At one point, I felt someone approaching from my left, so I turned and say a small black boy, of about seven or eight, standing there. "Hi."

"Hey, buddy. How are you?" I asked.

"The waters too cold! I'm scared of it, because it's cold, and I don't wanna go in there, but my mama keep telling me I gotta swim, but I don't wanna."

"Well, it's not that cold now. You sure you don't wanna swim?"

"What's that thing on your back?"

"My back? You mean my shirt?"

"No, that thing right there, on that side," he pointed. My gun.

"Oh, that. That's a gun, buddy."

"Is that a for real gun?"

"Yes," I nodded.

"For shooting people?"

I sighed. "Well, I don't wanna shoot anyone, really. But if a bad guy tries to hurt me or my kids, I will."

"You have kids? Where they at?"

I pointed them out to him. "Oh. Even the white ones are yours?"

"Yes, even the white ones." My two stepdaughters.

It was then a black woman approached us from the water. "Henri, why are you bothering this man?"

"He's not bothering me, ma'am. He was just making conversation, and curious."

"Oh, was he asking about your knife?"

"No, he was asking about my gun."

Her face changed, and her expression went from mild amusement to apprehension. "Ohh...you have...a gun?"

"Sure, right here," I said, pointing to it.

"You didn't take it out to show it to him, did you?"

"No, of course not. Who would do such a thing? He was just curious, and was asking about it. Why I had it, and such."

"Uh huh." She reached for the big, pulling him away from me, and behind her. "Well, I'm sorry to bother you."

"He was no bother, really. Really. It's good to ask questions."

"Right." She whisked him away, to group of other kids in the water, and began to speak to three black men, while motioning in my direction.

About fifteen minutes later, Molly sauntered over back from the water. "You mind taking over? I wanna lay down and get some sun for a bit."

"Sure." She laid down and I walked over to the creek to attend our knuckleheads kids. It was then one of the black men approached me. "Hey, man, how you doing?"

"I'm alright."

"Is that a gun? Like, a real gun?"

"Yup."

"Why do you got that here? You think someone's gonna start something?"

"Same reason I wear a seatbelt. Just in case."

"In case of what, thought?"

"In case I gotta shoot someone."

"Oh. Uh...hahahahaha. Yeah, I guess so, right? You ever shot someone before?"

"This conversation is going someplace I don't like. I don't know you, and I don't discuss my personal life with people I don't know."

"Alright, man, no disrespect. I was just curious."

"That's fine."

"Alright, then. Later, man."

I nodded, and he walked back over to his family.

They left eventually, maybe an hour later. One of Molly's cousins then spotted us, and walked over to hang out for a bit, with her obnoxious twelve year old son. It's not his fault he's obnoxious, really; he has autism. He's very high functioning, but hes just so goddamn obnoxious. At one point exclaimed very loudly (as in, shouted at the top of his lungs), "Hey, this guys got a gun! Hands up, don't shoot! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Everyone within earshot snapped their heads in our direction, and scowled. Awesome, thanks, Joey.

We started packing up around 4:30, and headed home.

Me, standing in line at the pharmacy. There's a lady standing there by the allergy medicine, giving me dirty looks. I've already been waiting for five minutes.

She walks over. She smells nice, and is attractive, despite her "I just smelled something offensive and now I need to speak to the manager" expression and haircut.

Her: "Excuse me, but why do you feel the need to do that?"

Me: "Do what?"

Her: "Carry a gun. Like that." She pointed at my 1911. I already know how this conversation is gonna go. No point in trying to explain anything to her politely.

Me: "Oh, that. Well, katanas dont have the same range, and socially, they're kind of awkward."

Her: "Huh?"

Me: "Exactly. I feel the need to carry this the same as you felt the need to say something to me about it."

Her: "Oh, you're one of those gun nut Second Amendment people, I take it?" She sneered.

Me: "Yep. That's me. Got my Gadsden Confederate Redneck flag on my pickup truck and errythang."

Her: "Well, enjoy it now, while you can. When Hillary becomes President, that's all going to stop." She seemed quite pleased with herself. I almost felt happy for her. It's rare that I take that much satisfaction in something I said.

Me: "God, I hope so. I'm voting for her. I'm eager for her to try and get guns confiscated. And I hope you, or someone you love, comes for them personally."

Her: "Wha...what? Did you just threaten me?" That satisfied look turned into a horrified one.

Me: "No. Not even close. If I had a reason to threaten you, you'd be dead already."

Her: "YOU HEARD HIM, RIGHT," she shrilled at a pharmacy tech. "YOU HEARD WHAT HE SAID. HE THREATENED ME."

The pharmacy tech stood there like a squirrel in traffic. "Uh, ma'am, I don't think...."

Her: "I WANT TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER RIGHT NOW."

Me: "Course you do. I could tell by the haircut and frosted tips."

Her: "FUCK YOU, YOU SCUMBAG."

Me: *blows kiss, and picks up bag of medicine and walks away whistling Andy Griffith theme*

Ha. It's been a while since I've had to deal with an asshole like that.

Wait. I thought the frosted tips was a duck-face douchebag bro thing. Have the busybody soccer-mom types appropriated their hairstyles?
