I finally took the plunge and committed to my first 10mm. I've been back and forth on this for a while and was able to convince myself that I absolutely need one.

Since I've really taken to amateur gunsmithing I went with the RIA TAC II FS figuring it would make a decent low cost project gun. From various reports it sounds like I will need to put a heavier recoil spring in it ASAP in order to run full power ammo (which I fully intend to do).

It was supposed to be in stock at the distributor so hopefully I will have it next week.

Yeah, 10mm, 11mm. Whatever it takes.

Ha! Love that movie.

"Wanna beer?"

"It's 7 o'clock in the morning."

"Scotch?"

Anyhow, I've been thinking about a 10mm myself. I was fondling an EAA Witness at my LGS but I'm just not sure I want to get into another odd-ball caliber. Then again, I can reload. Of course to build up a brass supply I need to buy some factory rounds and that stuff aint cheap...

Who am I kidding. It's just a matter of when, not if.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Yup I went through the exact same thought process and said all of the same things. What finally pushed me over the edge was wanting/needing a woods gun for hiking and geocaching which my family is doing more and more of. I know others can comfortably carry their wheelguns but I seem to be a bit of a baby and just cannot get it to work comfortably. They are either too thick or too heavy.

I've been eyeing up my BIL's Dan Wesson Razorback for awhile now. It's mine, when I have the cash to buy it, and reloading components for 10mm.

I really have no interest in researching it, but what's the difference between 9mm and 10mm aside from the obvious "1 mm"?

Does it have a longer case, for more powder or something?

Is it supposed to be an "in between" caliber between 9mm and 45ACP like the .40S&W?
I had one of those and hated it.

I read somewhere, can't recall where that if you get one loaded up that it shoots at 1600fps then it can penetrate body armor. Wink

The 40S&W is a cut down version of the 10mm. The 10 was supposed to be THE law enforcement gun but many people found the recoil too harsh so it was loaded light to compensate. Somebody eventually got the idea to cut the cartridge down so it would fit in standard frame pistols and thus the 40S&W was born.

It is on par with a 41 mag in terms of ballistics. Underwood sells a round that will push a 220gr bullet at 1200fps for 700 ft lbs of energy.

OK, thanks for taking the time to edjukate me.

I don't know what all that jib jib at the bottom means, but I assume it's a good thing. Wink

EM, the 10mm is a popular choice for semiautos when traveling through bear/cougar country on foot. It's a hard hitting round; the .40 is a watered down version.

It was central to a homicide case a few years ago. I don't recall the names or locale, but a man on a hike was accosted by a homeless guy on the trail, and was forced to shoot him. The DA made an issue of his choice in calibers, claiming that the 10mm was overkill for use on people, ignoring the fact that the area was known for mountain lions. I don't remember the outcome.
