joining the dark side this season

Yup after 21 years of bow hunting I'm going out with a crossbow this year.

I just don't seem to have the time or desire to dedicate to bow hunting anymore. I didn't get out once last season, and only the last few weeks the previous two seasons.......so screw it.

I didn't make the regs, but I'm going to take adavatage of them.
When I think about it I began bow hunting to add to my chances of putting meat in the freezer. Enjoying the challange came later. I no longer enjoy that challange, so in a way I've come full circle.

Who know's maybe after a couple kills with the crossbow I'll go back to a bow, maybe even a recurve.

Good luck out there, and be safe.

The same year the crossbow became legal for everyone was probably going to be the end of my archery hunting due to my shoulders. I noticed that I couldn't set up at full draw, I was having tremors.

I've had one shoulder cut and cleaned out already and the other one could use it. If I work on anything over my head, my shoulder rotates forward and the back of my arm turns in toward my body when I bring my arms back down. I then have to work to get it to pop back in.

The crossbow has kept me archery hunting.

It is still hunting and shooting. Have fun and leave the other guys to worry about your life. If you are ok with it, have at it. I bought one years ago and I love it. I still have my bow.

No idea. Just a pic of a medieval crossbow I found online.

It looks tiny though. Maybe it's a medieval "squirrel gun"? LOL

Just like anything else. There is a price to suit everyone's need, or what they think they need.

Mine was $500 out the door.
It drops bolts in three inch groups @ 30+ yds.
Plenty for deer.

I have an old Bear recurve from what looks like the mid 70's, but I never shoot it. It's over my Dad's (my friend's Dad, kinda adopted me after my Dad died) house because sometimes he gets bored being retired now...

I plan on taking up bow hunting with a compound, just don't have the money to put into it. So unless someone gives me a bow, I'll be in rifle season... lol
