Judge strikes down DC laws against guns outside home

I'm curious how many people are going to run to DC so they can open carry and smile for pictures only to get busted for magazine restrictions or other silly laws. Isn't possession of ammo or shell casings still illegal there?

Ahh thanks. 10 round limit and you can have ammo if you can own a firearm

Looks like they covered the mag cap issue but I don't see any talk about ammo.

This is what I'm thinking of...

Quote:Unlawful Possession of Ammunition (UA):It is illegal to possess ammunition in the District of Columbia unless the person is:  (1) a licensed dealer, (2) a federal or city law enforcement officer acting within scope of duties, or (3) holder of a  valid registration certificate of same gauge and caliber as ammunition in possession.  It is also illegal to possess, sell or transfer any “large capacity ammunition feeding device.”  A person guilty of this charge can be sentenced to a maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment.  D.C. Criminal Code 7-2506.01.

I know it's a long thread but I remember reading about the decision stating "ready to use" weapons, which one would assume having ammunition would be a requirement for a gun to be ready to use. One would also assume that would apply to magazine capacity as well but it hasn't been clarified yet.

Take a look at the directive I posted on the bottom of page two on this thread as well.

******DC requested a stay, 90 day stay granted...

D.C. did not get a stay. Nothing even suggests that. They only asked for one.

I think the article I quoted changed their initial article, it was also posted on the MD forum as well.

Wouldn't be surprised to see an EO and declare a state of emergency when Barry hears about all the evil gun owners that are on their way on the 8 o'clock news.

I wouldn't be surprised if BHO whips up an Executive Order, and extends it country wide, calling for the confiscation of all guns.

This is the Palmer Case, headed by attorney Alan Gura, of the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). Not trying to be CPT Obvious here, but Atty Gura has been perusing this since the Heller ruling, for which he also won before the SCOTUS. Atty Gura also won the Chicago McDonald case, opening up gun rights there, he is THE heavyweight, when it comes to successfully arguing such, hands down. It behooves, therefore, all who are concerned about such to support the SAF in any way they can.

In the meantime, the Stay has already been written and submitted, waiting acceptance and ruling by the Judge. If he grants it, everything gets put on hold, presumably for 90 days. If not, the City is most likely to go "court shopping", looking for ANY liberal judge with enough legal authority, to throw a wrench in the works. So, although this long awaited decision is a big one, it is not without more judicial wrangling, as was expected since the Heller ruling. Think of it, 5 years after a judge declares DC has the right to gun ownership, they still do not have decent gun laws, due to liberal legal wrangling. The State of Maryland is now worse off, as is NJ , NY, MA... And other liberally controlled states. PA is but one election away from such nonsense as will happen if Wolf gets elected Governor, with a Kane AG by his side to start enacting "common sense" gun laws, just like they did in MD. It was a slow fry, as they didn't feel the heat slowly being turned up. When they finally realized it, it was too late as they were already being served up on a plate, with an apple stuffed in their mouths.
