Kane: I cannot defend state law against gay marriage
I have no problem with gays getting married, but what pisses me off is she "magically" sees gay marriage as a right, yet she's a fucking huge gun grabber. To me this is like saying "I am totally against the Nazis during WWII, but I fully support the Japanese." Shrug

Quote:Kane: I cannot defend state law against gay marriage

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane said Thursday she cannot defend that state's version of the Defense of Marriage Act against a federal lawsuit that seeks to overturn the state ban on gay marriage.

"We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, and I want to start acting like that," Kane told reporters at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Kane says she has not spoken to Gov. Corbett about her decision. Quoting Robert F. Kennedy to loud applause, she said ripples can create a wave to break down walls of intolerance,

State law says the attorney general is supposed to defend the constitutionality of Commonwealth laws, but also that the attorney general may allow lawyers for the governor's office or executive branch agencies to defend a suit if that is more efficient or in the best interest of the state.

State Rep. Brian Sims, who is gay, posted on Twitter Thursday morning: "Attorney General Kathleen Kane, if you were a man I'd marry you!"

Kane said on the campaign trail last year that gay people should be allowed to marry. She spoke with reporters Thursday at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Yes, it's hypocritical. Both Republicans and Democrats alike are hypocritical. That's why I'm a Libertarian, I support freedom across the board, not just for the freedoms I want for myself.
Notice she keeps giving these speeches in Philly... first gun control and now gay marriage?

Then time to start. Stupid bitch.
This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties. A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins. -Ben Franklin
Another example of polarized politics. Aside from the fact that gay marriage is "in" nowadays and it'd be detrimental to anyone's campaign to be against it, unless you're voter base is a majority of fundamentalist religious types.

The funny thing is, this is the sort of thing people get all uptight about and base their voting decisions on. When, case in fact most people's lives aren't impacted in the least by social issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc... The sheeple will however roll over in five seconds on issues that directly impact their rights provided by the Constitution.

We should be voting every politician in office who isn't actively advocating repeal of legislation like the Patriot Act. However, silence or non action while in service is somehow O.K. Inaction is just as harmful as working for something.

Sorry, for off topic rant (sort of). I'm just so sick of people voting party lines based on social issues when our rights are being hacked away at on a daily basis.

Gun grabbing is rights violating. Get her ass out of there.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.
Well, theres one thing that i can support her on, but her vehement anti-gun stance, over rules her pro gay marriage stance, for me.

Actually since she ran for, and was elected to, the office that requires her to defend Pa. laws, even if she personally disagrees with them, we should be demanding that she immediately resign. If she isn't willing to do the job that she ran for then she needs to be removed.

I think the Republicans make some great points in AG Kane's decision not to do her job. I'm quoting from the article.

"Kane, a Democrat, faced quick criticism from Pennsylvania Republicans. "What law will she ignore next?" asked state GOP Chairman Rob Gleason. "The people of Pennsylvania elect citizens to carry out constitutional responsibilities based on the tradition that no one is above the law." It's unacceptable for Kane "to put her personal politics ahead of her taxpayer-funded job by abdicating her responsibilities," he said. "She is blatantly politicizing the highest law enforcement office in our Commonwealth."

I disagree. She has to defend constitutional laws.

This is not.

Under Pennsylvania's Constitution it is entirely valid. She is THE chief legal representative of the state therefore she is abdicating her duties by NOT defending and/or enforcing said law. She does not have a mandate to ensure that Pa. laws meet the federal Constitution. She needs to do the job that she's paid for or get the hell out.
