Katana quenched in a fish tank

While messing around on youtube I stumbled across this pretty cool videos looking for stuff on heat treating. The signature curve of a katana is and artifact from when it gets quenched and hardened. I've never seen a video where you can actually see the curve being formed, in this one you can. Pretty cool. You can see how people in the past used to think the steel was almost alive on some level.

Pretty cool. I have seen this result before, but not from a side view. This is from the wet clay "differential tempering". It still takes crazy skill to know exactly how to paint the clay on to give a blade just the right curve. One of a brazillion steps in forging an authentic katana...
