Kid suspended from school for playing with airsoft gun--on own yard
#1
Quote:A seventh-grade student in Virginia Beach, Va., has been suspended from school for playing with an airsoft gun with a friend in his front yard while waiting for the school bus.

WAVY-TV reports that 13-year-old Khalid Caraballo will find out soon if he will be expelled for "possession, handling and use of a firearm" because the guns were fired at two others playing in Caraballo's yard.

.........

The school's so-called "zero-tolerance" policy on guns extends to private property, according to the report.

.........

"My son is my private property. He does not become the school's property until he goes to the bus stop, gets on the bus, and goes to school," Caraballo told the station.

WTF is wrong with this world???????

It is getting absolutely LUDICROUS. The black bold is bad enough, but look at the RED bold!

No lady, your kid is ALWAYS your 'property', although I'm certain she meant responsibility. But even then, parental responsibility trumps school responsibility.

I hope they lawyer up and sue the balls off the school district. I think when students are on school property, then they must obey school policy. This should also extend to the school's events (prom at a private facility, school football games at an opposing team's stadium, etc.). Aside from that, the school should not have any authority over students' lives. The exception being cases of child endangerment, etc. I don't understand why schools are so willing to get involved in students' lives now as compared to the past. Then again, maybe this has always been going on but I just started paying attention to it within the past few years. Regardless, this has to stop now.

Kids at the bus stop 70 yards away claimed that they were shot at and the principal claims that he observed marks on those students.

Here is the 911 call:

I think the principal is just grasping for straws to cover his butt.

Like I in the other discussion I had with Ruger the other day on this zero tolerance bullshit. This is 100% to scare parents into making the choices in line with the agenda being pushed by the schools these days. Rather than risk becoming front page news events like this just cause parents to steer their kids away from certain activities...

Gonna have to pass this to my brother. he lives in VA Beach and his son, age 15, is part of the public school system. My brother, retired SpecOps, takes my nephew shooting all the time. If the school found out about that, then he'd be suspended too.

Oh... and most of the students would be as well. If "zero-tolerance" extends to the home, etc., then there are going to be a lot of empty classrooms. Because that means you can't even take your kid to a range to shoot the 10-22.

How many families go shooting down there? don't know, but based on the fact that you are looking at one of the largest military populations, there is a good chance a lot of kids go shooting with their parents. Let's see... there's Norfolk, Little Creek, Oceana, and Fort Story.

I hope the family gets a first rate attorney.
A gun rack in a pick-up is not for holding guns. Its a place for women to hold on to. Smile

If I had kids I would be tempted to take my kid to the range over summer break, let them shoot an evil black .22 take lots and lots of photos and then when they get back to school let them bring in the photo album and let the kid gloat and talk about what they did over their break. Then dare the school to do something about it. Teach the kid about the concept of a victimless crime at the same time.
