Personally I don't think that quite falls under gear and equipment. When you start breaking it down there are discussions that will be had about laws, permits and news, projects relating to fireworks and model rocketry and archives for information that are quite specific and not related to gear and equipment.

Other sub forum somewhere?

Tell ya what, we'll put them there, if you compile the applicable laws, I'll make them stickies so that they're easily found and referenced. Then any further discussions can just follow the normal thread flow.

Sounds like I have a project for tomorrow Smile.

I've already bookmarked all the applicable Federal and State laws, the trouble is with local laws which are not preempted. It's not as illegal as some may think it is, even after 911 and the murrah building. When done for personal fun in a responsible and safe manner it can be exciting and rewarding.

I used to love the days I had with MDTripoli and LDRS.

R-candy anyone?Big Grin

I used to make that stuff. one batch blew the hell up like an m80. And it wasn't confined.
I gotta get back into the rc candy. Whistle mix is way too dangerous for where i live.

There are TONS of variations to the term pyrotechnics. From class a,b and c fireworks to destructive devices, incendiaries to smoke and explosive targets like tannerite. Laws on the federal level mostly govern the "manufacture" (not to be confused with simply building or making) and storage and transportation of mixtures.

Yes, atf has the form. You have to apply for a license to buy. Then you have to apply with your county or township to store the stuff (magazine) then you have to do time training with a licensed pyro in able for you to get a liscense to display, then you need to get a permit to do the display (thats the small window of time part).
It can be done though, (easier) depending on where you live.

The problem I can see with lumping this under gear and accessories is it will create unwanted clutter in a section mainly reserved for things like flashlights and tactical stuff. What I envision is a section devoted to pyrotechnics like there is a section devoted to firearms. This would be broken down into

-general law discussions and resources and talk,
-a subsection for fireworks and laws, regulations and rules that apply along side fireworks discussion and binary targets,
-subsection for NFA and FEL talk regarding DD's, explosives licenses and businesses
- and a subsection for amateur model rocketry with all appropriate laws, permits and rules with discussion here too.

The definition of "arms" comes in to play as well and surely this is a website for the second amendment for which isn't solely about guns but our right to keep and bear arms of all kinds.
