LEHIGH COUNTY REFERENCES REQUIREMENT
#1
Filling out my renewal now, and the Sheriff still has the "references" requirements (section 29). What's the deal? According to this article http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/breaking...a_cou.html they aren't even checking.

It's a standard state form which they're (I think) required to use. But as the article states, they aren't required to check them. They don't in Bucks--- they just to the instant background check and you're outta there in 20 minutes.

At least it's PA residents now, the county form used to require in-county residents for a reference.

I've always wondered about this.

Suppose I move to PA from out of state. I don't know anybody here. I get a PADL, I'm a resident. I don't make no friends.

Does one get references in that situation?

"What you have 0 friends? No gun permit for you."

Bradford county requires the references to be Bradford county residents. Just got my renewal notice today.

I enjoy every minute of it.

I recently got mine from Lancaster County, and having grown up in DE, and lived most recently in MD, I didn't have any PA reference info on me. I thought I'd have to leave and come back until the Deputy asked me, "You do know two people, right?", I said, "Yeah but the PA people I know, I don't have their info, I'll have to leave and come back". He said, "They don't have to be from PA, just two people that you know".... $20, 20 minutes, BADA BING! Big Grin

That's illegal. The sheriff isn't permitted to add his or her own requirements over an above the letter of the law.
