Small upgrade last night.
Shurshot stock added. Not bad for a $10 pickup.[Image: ynaje5u4.jpg]

After just having had my Maverick 88 out, I suddenly feel... inadequate.

Now I'm waiting on the Ironwood furniture to come, it shipped today after only waiting 3 weeks. It's finally coming together. More to come.

Ironwood furniture FTW! This is the Baltic Birch Laminate. Required a bit of fitting on my end on the lower handguard but nothing I'm not used to already with the V12. Next step is finishing the wood. I've got red and brown rit dye and amber shellac on standby. The goal is bright deep red with a little brownish/amber tint.

Well since UPS lost my package containing the Russian flash hider that was supposed to complete the look I wanted for this and the days ticking away to get a shot in the snow I figured it's time to get this up.

Here is my take on a sunburst red wild boar 12, sans flash hider. Tromix ALG trigger with a polish job by me, JTE hammer spring, Ironwood Designs handguard and grip set, CSSpecs magazine, US made puck and polished carrier and rails.

For the finish on the wood I started by sanding down the bare wood, 120 grit followed by 220 grit then finished off with 400. I used Rit Cherry Red liquid dye, 3 cups water and 6 cap fulls of dye. Bring dye to almost a boil, maybe 180°F and brushed it onto the wood liberally. Let soak in and dry for 8 hours, sanded down the wood with 400 to take off the surface dye and wood fibers that lifted, cleaned up with tack cloth and put on a second coat of dye. 8 hours later I sanded and wiped it with tack cloth again. Next up was the finish coats. I used Zinsser Bullseye Amber Shellac in five coats every hour, buffing with 0000 steel wool and cleaning with tack cloth between coats. Inside surfaces only got 2 coats and mounting surfaces on the handguards were left untouched. After waiting 12 hours for full cure they were installed.
