License, Registration, Proof of Insurance & Cell Phone!

Just heard on the radio that NJ is now requiring that if you're involved in a car accident they will require you to turn over your cell phone so that all it's information can be downloaded at the scene.

No link to it yet, will look for an actual reference.

I assume so they can see if you were talking/texting so you can be "at fault" for insurance purposes.

Lovely.

Although as bad as that is....the silver lining is that careless people will have to accept fault for accidents. If that was the ONLY use for the info, it wouldn't be so bad....sad thing is, it probably won't be the only use for it.

Although now with bluetooth and all that, there may be no real proof that you were actually doing something wrong...you could have ignored the call, or someone in the car could have been replying FOR you, or etc....in which case...yeah. Not really a silver lining at all, now that I think about it.

If there's multiple people in the car, how are they going to definitively prove that the driver was the one using it?

Being one of the few people on the planet that do not own a cell, I would likely be beaten to death because I refused and would not hand it over.

No cell phone? If I wasn't on my mobile, I would put up that pic of Donald Sutherland from the end of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

Why do they need to request you hand over the phone at all, when they can simply get the information directly from the NSA?

Yeah, I came to that conclusion near the end of my prior post. haha.

Privacy has been over for much longer than anyone would care to admit. It's just sad that now it's so obvious and people are still accepting it.
