Live Turkey Decoy?
#1
So I've been thinking, we've been seeing big groups of wild turkeys coming in close lately here at the compound. Never seen them like this before. Then it dawns on me, I think that ever since we got our own turkeys I bet they can hear them and it draws them in now.

Now the wheels are turning.

We're only down to one turkey now but he's just like a dog. He comes when you call him, he will follow you around and is very obedient, lol. I wonder if I could take my turkey out to use as a live decoy. Ya'know, take him out in the woods in a dog crate, let him out in a good spot to draw in the wild ones, maybe put him on a leash or somethin.

Are you allowed to use turkeys to hunt birds?Big Grin

Here is a shot of my hunting dawg... ermmmmm turkey. I took this shot at our local wild life refuge in Tinicum... I've had them attack me in the wild and am considering using one as an attack turkey at my house.

The only negative I see is someone shooting your decoy because it looks like a turkey...

That's unlawful.
Quote:In both spring and fall turkey seasons, it is unlawful to possess or use live turkeys as decoys, or conduct drives for turkeys or use electronic callers or devices.

But what if I train him to track, point and flush out other turkeys? Big Grin

Maybe he'd make a good rabbit turkey...
