Local gun control worked to halt a straw purchase

Link: Local gun control worked to halt a straw purchase

Quote:Last month, two gun shops in Elizabethtown did what they are supposed to do: They halted the sale of a handgun to a man who was trying to avoid detection.

Kevin Zarbailov of Brooklyn, New York, tried to buy a 9mm handgun in Elizabethtown. At Lanco Tactical, he produced an ID, as required. Problem was, the Pennsylvania ID he provided was fake. Not only did the ID look fake, it listed Zarbailov’s name as “Usher Binhamington.”

The clerk correctly halted the sale.

But that did not stop Zarbailov. Instead, he sought a “straw purchaser” — that is, a person who buys a gun for someone else. He stopped a person on the street, gave him $640 for the handgun and promised him a $100 tip.

That individual entered the Trop Gun Shop and, when police arrived, he told them about Zarbailov. That person has not been charged.

Police arrested Zarbailov, who later posted $250,000 bail. Zarbailov has since skipped out on a hearing and is now a fugitive from justice.

The article then basically turns into an essay about how this incident could have possibly been acceptable if the federal gov't wouldn't have stopped the curtailing of the '68 Gun Control act...

Quote:What makes this an interesting situation is that one month ago the U.S. Supreme Court nearly curtailed the 1968 Gun Control Act, which requires the person buying the gun to be the actual owner of the gun.
Quote:The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced more than 9,400 weapons used in crimes in Pennsylvania last year. Of those, 9mm handguns were the largest number recovered.

Zarbailov’s case underscores the importance of the 1968 Gun Control Act. It also points out that, in this instance, the gun shop employees performed exactly as they were expected to perform.

So do you think the fugitive's Brooklyn address might just happen to be around Coney Island or Brighton Beach?

Wait...

So PA's modifications to PUFA to curtail straw purchasing worked... the dude commits VUFA in the second attempt, and then they let him run out on cheap bail?

$250K bail means he only has to pony up $25K to get out. Someone who has $25K of cash lying around == mafia.

From the article:
Quote:That portion of the federal form states: “You are not the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm(s) on behalf of another person. If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot transfer the firearm(s) to you.”

...Unless you are buying firearms for Mexican drug lords and have Eric Holder's permission. Was added by presidential order.

Holder? Try Bloomberg. He should have been denied bail as a flight risk, and to send a message to future NY minions.
“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”
