Long lines at LA's drive-up gun buyback sites
#1
Quote:After the tragedy in Newtown, CT, Los Angeles officials moved their annual gun buyback program to the day after Christmas. Long lines of gun holders queued up in cars around the block at Exposition Park to exchange guns for Ralphs gift cards in front of the Sports Arena — no questions asked. Long lines were also reported at the Van Nuys Masonic Temple.

~snip~

City officials said they collected more than the 1,673 guns accepted at the last buyback event, but were withholding final numbers until tomorrow.

Yep, each one of those guns and gun owners were personally responsible for the CT shootings. Rolleyes

If nothing else, why don't these people think about going to a gun store and selling their firearms back for a more reasonable price (in a lot of cases). Ok, so that mass-produced, rusted shut, rusted out barrel, bolt action, .22 from 20 years ago probably isn't worth that $20, so then it might be worth it, but for the others...

Because they will find that many of those guns are stolen. Gun buy backs tend to be ask no questions, cash for guns programs.

I wonder how many of these programs incentivize the stealing of firearms?

Granted, but every time I see footage of gun buy backs, it is normally 70somthing year old people turning in their hunting rifle that they haven't touched in 30 years. When they show the firearms that are taken, most of them are old hunting rifles. I very seldom see any sort of firearm that is likely to have been obtained illegally.

If illegal firearms were bought, or stereotypical-looks-like-a-criminal people do turn in their firearms, I would expect these people to be broadcast to show that the programs to get "illegal guns off the street".

I was reading about this last night and couldn't believe my eyes. They aren't paying cash they are exchanging for grocery store gift cards. One person in line was quoted asking "does this really make us safer", to which the answer was "well the police are here so obviously they support it which means it makes us safer."

Those are probably the same people that also won't help the police by being a witness when they are crimes in their neighborhood. But as long as the police are giving out freebies, they'll be happy to participate.

But the good news is. We're arming the Muslim Brotherhood, even with F16's.

...looks like some nice shotguns and hunting rifles...in the first pic, rifle in the bin at lower left looks like some kind of C&R rifle.

also, I saw some footage on the news and spied what appeared to have been an M1 Garand...it was very brief, but the rear sights looked like garand sights
