LTCF question
#1
Simple and short question.

Mine expires in June. Can and would I be able to renew it in Feb. or March?

All advice appreciated.

On the Delaware County Sheriff's website it says you may renew up to 60 days prior to expiration. Not saying that's the law, just what he says.

One drawback to renewing early, your new expiration date will be the new issue date, so in effect you lose time that you paid for. The LTCF does not renew on the expiration date.

So if you have an expiration in June, and you were able to renew in February, you'd lose 4 months as the renewal would have a February expiration date, not June.

Mine expires in late May. I'm in Philly and the way they take their time issuing, I'm going down this month to get the process started.

The statutes don't actually say when you can renew. Although the sheriff is supposed to send you an application at least 60 days before your license expires. Some sheriffs take this to mean that they can't renew a LTCF before that.

It depends on your sheriff (or Philly PD). Call and ask.

Wait until it expires.

So long as you're still legally qualified to be licensed, you fall under an exemption for six months beyond the expiration date. More than enough time to get the new one processed, even in places like Philly where they don't worry about the legally required timetable to complete the process.
