LuckyGunner test of 117 different Self-Defense loadings .380 to .45
Very interesting test: 117 different loads in .380, 9, 40, & 45

The stuff I use (9mm Speer GoldDot 124gr +P) looks solid, but there are definitely a few with notably better final expansion dia. in the same overall performance and weight range. No crisis for me but something to look into for future purchases.

One thing to note, in the 9mm category at least, if you go into the individual load pages, you'll see a maximum of 0.9" dia for one of the loads - that is one casing of one round of Glaser Safety Slug with a irregular shape and low retained weight in that component skewing the numbers.

Good comparative data. As was pointed out, I'd love to see the inclusion of .38/.357 magnum, for us wheel gum carriers.

Interesting. Especially on how the .45ACP performed in general. It either didn't penetrate enough or bulldozed right on through. Very few were just right. It appears that .40 did the best overall, though 9mm and .380 didn't do too badly.
