#1
The four companies are:
Plinker Tactical
Big Rock Sports DBA Swampfox
Promag Ind
Cole Ind

Quote:Magpul Industries Corp announced today that it has filed patent infringement lawsuits against four companies for offering for sale, selling, and distributing magazines for AR15/M16 compatible weapons in violation of Magpul’s patents. The company’s lawsuits allege infringement of Utility Pat. No. 8,069,601 for a novel ammunition magazine, in addition to numerous Magpul design patents.

The lawsuits, filed in United States District Court, Colorado, provide another example of Magpul’s dedication to protecting its valuable brand while sending a warning to others attempting to infringe on our innovations. “These patents exemplify the industrial design-focused spirit at Magpul, which drives us to create novel solutions that enhance user experience with our products,” said Duane Liptak, Director of Product Management and Marketing for Magpul Industries. “People who use Magpul products have high expectations and a great deal of trust regarding the value, quality, and amount of thought put into every design we release. As such, we cannot allow others to misappropriate the patented technology that helps us generate that consumer confidence and trust.”

The lawsuits are the largest and most significant to date brought by Magpul, and are part of the company’s ongoing proactive efforts to combat the unlawful production, distribution, and sale of products that infringe on its valuable intellectual property rights.

Good for them. The only name I recognize up there is Promag and I think their products suck.

Soooooo, the media hype a staged event and put a certain type of magazine in the spotlight. Fears soar with new gun ban legislation in the beginning of 2013 and people have back ordered these plastic magazines for the next year making this company a lot of instant disposable income. Some other company makes a plastic magazine and all of a sudden gets slapped with a lawsuit from this newfound manufacturing giant. Magpul wins a lawsuit and corners the market for overpriced molded hunks of plastic and the hipsters have to pay double for their mags.

Did I get it right?...

Nope.

Promag for one has been making a plastic mag for at least 2-3 years. I got some thinking it was Pmags they look so similar. Then there is CAA mags out of Israel, theirs are pretty good.

Are they suing because other companies make plastic/polymer/etc. AR mags or is there more to it?

Looks like patent infringement. I don't think they have a patent for magazines made out of polymer specifically, but I could be wrong. I think it's got to be something else in the other companies magazines overall design that is too similar to specifics they have patented.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

My opinion? Magpul's no Browning, that's for sure. Shrug
