Yeah I was at St Christopher's Hospital when it happened. All of a sudden it was all sirens and news helicopters. Wild. Not for nothing, but half those old decrepit buildings in that area could come down with a stiff breeze.

You do have to wonder how much underlying damage was done to buildings on the eastern seaboard from that Earthquake near DC a couple years ago.

I'm just 2 blocks over (at work). Was at home when it happened.

These 2 remaining blocks of Sam Rappaport's old empire is probably the most decrepit part left of Center City.

Well that and the Gallery mall.

L&I and the City has been treating blightlords with kid gloves for eons. Too bad it wasn't one of Mayor Nutter's kids in the Salvation Army store [that would have been the only thing that will cause a real shift in how the City behaves towards blightlords].

In a few months this will be swept under the rug.

Too bad there's no pictures of bodies--because it would come in handy far off in the future when this happens again. And it will.

Weren't gun owners upset when Obama used the dead from Sandy Hook as props to push an agenda? Wouldn't using the pictures of the bodies here effectively be the same thing?

It didn't help the Bucks Hosiery Factory after the earthquake. The earthquake caused a ton of bricks to pop out and smash into the pavement. That was a 5 story megafactory with no iron framing--all freestanding brick and timber beams. Without constant attention to the masonry, keeping the moisture off it (wall trees), deterioration sets in and destroys the walls pretty quickly.

Then the fire came and the timber framing pushed out bricks holding up a 6 story fire tower, and it collapsed, along with 6 stories of bricks, on a group of 5 firefighters. Maimed 1 of them and instantly killed the other 2.

That was last year.

Well in the SH case it's to use propganda for a campaign to strip away people's rights.

In my case, I want to use prop. but to get the City to do its most basic fucking responsibilities that a muni/local government is supposed to do and completely sucks at.

Well, I'd love to know who granted the developer with criminal history the permits, how much they and the city inspectors were bribed, and when arrests are going to be made.

As a side note, I hope that was for your job and not because anyone in your family is sick.

But yeah, we used to have to go down to St. Chris to visit a sick child of a friend, and it had been the first time I'd ever been in that part of the city, and the "birdcage apartments" (full of bars everywhere including the porches) were jawdropping the first time.

Ugh....

Fire source says police have tracked cell phones of 3-4 unaccounted victims to area of 22nd and Market [scene of collapse].

Hoping there are not bodies next to those phones.
