You started me looking for other worksheets related to this. I like this one below particularly. No indoctrination to the new system here...no...sir...eee. I love the use of pictograms to influence the kids into choosing the "good" system if maybe they don't fully understand from the wording.

I try to help my 13 yr old with her math. I teach her the way I learned it, apparently that is incorrect now and the math MUST be done the new way even though she got 100% answers right on the quiz they gave her a zero for "Not Following Directions" I bitched about and they let her re take the quiz there way.

What if you show your work? Your child is what in algebra 1 at that age? I can understand if you got a zero if you were doing polynomials and just wrote X = whatever with nothing else, but if you wrote out like the whole quadratic formula with the correct substitutions I don't see the rationale in giving a zero in that case if you got the right answer.

I'm still pissed off about a math question that I got "wrong" in third grade. When I answered the question on the test, I swore that I was gonna be the only one in the class who got it right. It was a word problem about how many eggs a restaurant would need for each day of the week. Apparently whoever wrote the test failed to take into consideration the fact that any leftover eggs from the previous day didn't immediately expire and have to be thrown out. You could, in fact, keep them in the fridge and use them the next day. That concept was too difficult for my teacher to comprehend.
