Meat Slicers

I've really wanted a nice meat slicer for here at the house for a while. But to me, all the consumer grade products just look like cheap crap, and all the commercial grade products, even used, are way outside my price range.

Do you guys know of any good consumer grade products that work well, and aren't going to break or burn out after the first year of use?

I bought a Waring model FS800 over 10 years ago that's given great service over that time. Unfortunately, this model, made in Italy, is no longer in production. The model wearing that number now is made in (surprise) China.

Probably took it off the market because it lasted too long.

Try Singer?

Singer Equipment Company

They're expensive on a lot of stuff but they have a hell of a selection. I buy stuff from them when I can afford it.

A good friend of mine that does a lot of slicing aqctually some catering as well has this one:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-1...l+Products

he told me he loves it. He had the smaller one and returned it and bought this one. There are somplastic parts on it but im told its very dourable and cuts like a commercial unit.

Sorry I cant get the link to work.

+1 I have a meat grinder and a 10" slicer that Cabela's slapped their name on but both have performed very well.

I think I finally found one worth investing in. I was in The Restaurant Supply store yesterday and happened across this one: http://www.therestaurantstore.com/avantc...SL309.html

I took a good look at it, all aluminum construction, built in sharpener, not too heavy, but not too light. It would be easy to put away when it's not in use. Definitely seems to be a better quality product than the ones I've seen in similar price range at Cabela's or Bass Pro.
