Mexican carry with a string holster
#1
Over the weekend, I decided to see if I could CC my full size 1911. I sometimes have issue with my ambi-safety being flicked off by my Tangua holster. Ive formed the holster by letting the pistol sit in the holster for a few weeks, and while that formed the strap better, I noticed a few times that the safety would somehow switch off.

So this weekend, I had to do some yardwork and have been toying with the idea of an IWB holster. I wanted to try this method of carry before purchasing a holster. I looked at Mexican carry, and thought that I probably didnt want to have my pistol go down my leg and into the mud. What to do?

Enter para cord Big Grin

Made a short loop of it, ran my belt through it then put my pistol in the loop and in my pants. Was able to draw it smoothly without catching on anything and it wouldnt drop any further in the pants. So, out to the yard I went.

The string holster worked great! I was able to bend down, pick stuff up, carry things, move things etc etc and that pistol stayed in place. Every once in a while, I'd get a pinch, but that safety stayed in place as did the pistol. I even tossed the football around and everything stayed where it should. I had it in the 2'oclock position and the 4'oclock position without incident.

Only issue now is the lint trap that my barrel has become Sad

I was thinking the same thing too. I know the grip safety and manual thumb safety need to be disengaged, but I'd still be worried about blowing my dick off. Murphy's law: What can go wrong will go wrong.

I've had the same ambi-safety issues with my 1991 with some holsters. I bought El Paso Saddlery company IWB holster a few years ago, their version of Bruce Nelson's Summer Cruiser design. It has never disengaged the safety, ever. It's the only holster II can fully conceal a Gov't sized 1911 comfortably with.

My fiancee carries without a holster, just tucking her gun in behind her back. It drives me nuts, but she hates using IWB holsters, and she's a conceal-only kind of girl. She's never had an issue. I'll see if she'll do the paracord thing, though.

I once had a lady pay me by pulling a twenty out of her sweaty cleavage.

Ewww...

Remind me not to ask to shoot your handgun.

This video was the closest to showing what I did. I used paracord and i double looped on the belt making sure my cobra knot was outside along the bottom of the belt (didnt want to risk the knot moving up into the trigger).
