Michael Moore: 'Guns don’t kill people, Americans kill people'

Quote:Michael Moore: 'Guns don’t kill people, Americans kill people'

Filmmaker Michael Moore had a lot to say about guns to a paparazzo who caught up with him at LAX, the scene of a shooting last week that left a TSA worker dead.

“I think the NRA, they’ve got it half right when they say ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people,’” he told the TMZ cameraman. “I change it to ‘guns don’t kill people, Americans kill people.’ Because we’re really the only ones that do it on this level, on this scale. Why?”

The cameraman asked Moore about his thoughts on the LAX shooting.

“Nothing changes. It’s the country we live in... Legally purchased gun, bullets. What are you going to do?” Moore said.

He then talked about how other countries don’t seem to suffer from similar numbers of attacks.

“There’s a reason why this doesn’t happen in Canada, and Ireland and France and elsewhere. They have their occasional craziness but it’s not on a weekly or monthly basis, no. So why us? Because they’re not better than us, so why us? What is it about us? That’s the question to ask,” he said.

Read between the lines, he's bitching about firearms. Did you ever see Bowling for Columbine? The guy is a gun grabber.

Probably because we have more people than all those countries combined? How about you go and compare us to a closer sized country like say russia..

No, you don't see that kind of craziness in Canada, or England. But you do see people getting their head cut off on a bus, or on a city street, and ain't no one can do anything about it because no one is armed but the police.

Of course, they don't have "school shootings" but there seems to be a lot of machete attacks on school children in those gun free utopias.

Ahhhh.... To die by machete. So humane. No loud bang. No scary looking military like weapon. Just a simple tool from the shed, a lot of blood and severed body parts. So much better.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

Read closer. The guy hates America almost as much as he hates himself.

That's probably more accurate

Sicko - "The film investigates health care in the United States, focusing on its health insurance and the pharmaceutical industry. The movie compares the for-profit, non-universal U.S. system with the non-profit universal health care systems of Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Cuba."

Capitalism: A Love Story - "The film centers on the late-2000s financial crisis and the recovery stimulus, while putting forward an indictment of the current economic order in the United States and capitalism in general. Topics covered include Wall Street's "casino mentality", for-profit prisons, Goldman Sachs' influence in Washington, D.C., the poverty-level wages of many workers, the large wave of home foreclosures, corporate-owned life insurance, and the consequences of "runaway greed". The film also features a religious component where Moore examines whether or not capitalism is a sin and if Jesus would be a capitalist, in order to shine light on the ideological contradictions among evangelical conservatives who support free market ideals."

Fahrenheit 9/11 - "The film takes a critical look at the presidency of George W. Bush, the War on Terror, and its coverage in the news media. The film is the second highest grossing documentary of all time after Michael Jackson's This Is It.

In the film, Moore contends that American corporate media were "cheerleaders" for the 2003 invasion of Iraq and did not provide an accurate or objective analysis of the rationale for the war or the resulting casualties there. The film generated intense controversy, including disputes over its accuracy."

Bowling for Columbine - "The film explores what Moore suggests are the causes for the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 and other acts of violence with guns. Moore focuses on the background and environment in which the massacre took place and some common public opinions and assumptions about related issues. The film also looks into the nature of violence in the United States."

Regardless of what you think of his past work, if he's revising his thinking in the direction of the humans rather than the hardware, that could be a very good thing. It sounds as if that may be the case. "Roger and Me" was damned good work. After that he went off the rails.
