Can anyone school me on the MP40? If I had the opportunity to buy one, anything that I should look out for?

Other than those being antiques and requiring a thorough exam buy a competent gunsmith, if you can find and afford one, then sure, why not?

They are very controllable, the rate of fire isn't insane, and they aren't super heavy. I put an entire mag in a hole the size of a tennis ball at 20 yards with 3-4 round bursts, and that was with a heavy use range gun in Vegas... not some pristine safe queen.
tolerance for failure meter... LOW

Guy at work, who has an extensive NFA collection, has one.

It is a Phoenix arms tube gun, and he says the german parts kit is all numbers matching. He has 12 original mags, original mag loader, a WWII sling and a replica sling so that the WWII sling is not used, and he wasn't specific about it but an extra bolt group that corrects a firing pin weak link..., it hasn't been installed since he's had no issues with the original, but it's there just in case. He says it runs great and he's never had an issue.

When our work schedules line up, we're gonna go put a few mags through it.

Anything else I should look for?

Thanks

They are cool but it's a Nazi gun...if you're gonna spend the cash for a transferable full auto, and you want something from WWII, why not get an American gun like an M2 Carbine? It's also like 5 times cheaper.

Well I guess that's a good reason. Tongue

What are they going for these days anyway? I rarely ever see them for sale. I can only imagine they are over 20 grand? 30? If it's that high, that's enough for a 1919 beltfed AND and M2 carbine. Just sayin'.

No they're not that high. I see them for 12-14, I can buy this one for 11.

I like 9mm SMGs.

Oh okay, that's not bad. I swore I saw one in the 30K range but that must have been some kind of special collector one.
