Police arrest US presidential candidate Jill Stein at debate site

Police arrested Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein and her running mate, Cheri Honkala, after they tried to enter the site of tonight’s presidential debate at the Hofstra University.

The two were protesting against the exclusion of all but the two major political parties from taking part in the debate.

“Jill Stein, Cheri Honkala arrested, call tonight's #debate a "mockumentary",” said a tweet posted on her account.

The presidential candidate and her vice-presidential nominee were arrested by local police when they tried to enter the grounds of Hofstra University, in Hempstead, New York, Stein's campaign website says. The women are currently still in police custody.

A video posted on YouTube shows police officers ushering Stein and Honkala away after they apparently tried to stage a sit-in.

The arrest comes after an announcement by the Green Party that the candidates will take “Occupy the Commission on Presidential Debates” action on the night of the debate.

Well since the debate is not a debate, and the townhall format is not a townhall environment, why not let the other candidates in to answer the preselected non spontaneous questions?

It is wrong to exclude anyone running for the presidency that is backed by a real party. Like them or not, the Green Party is a real party.

I agree. This isnt some Vermin Supreme stunt. She will be on 85% of the ballots this election. Gary Johnson will be on 100% of the ballots in every state and has also been kept out of the debates.

No sympathy for anyone using the "occupy" mentality.

Do I think it's BS that only two people can participate? Yes.

Do I support hippy-tactics? Nope.

Hope they don't have to pee tonight, cuz jail cell toilets are nasty.

true.

it's a real shame that the country is not allowed to hear more than 2 hacks on the stage at once.

and boy was that debate pathetic or what?!

I only heard a few minutes of it while at a restaurant with some friends and it was an utter joke.

This begs the question, what kind of tactics do you support? I'm kind of a fan of non-violent protest. I don't recall Rosa Parks being a hippie. How about the blacks who staged sit ins at whites only lunch counters in the south? Shouldn't confuse the cause with the tactics.
