My AK hates me
#1
Well... It's probably more of a case of strong dislike since we haven't really spent enough time together for it to truly hate me.

My curiosity finally got the best of me and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with these AK pattern rifles. I did a little research and settled on a Czech O-PAP. I wanted to like this gun but I just can't get comfortable with it. The problem is the stock. ( I think ) No matter how I hold it I just can't get my eyes down in the sights. I can kind of hike it up on my shoulder a bit and get everything lined up but then the stock catches me in the cheekbone with every recoil. I tried adding a recoil pad just to give the stock a little more length but that didn't really seem to help. Is this a common problem with AKs (in general or the O-PAP in particular) or am I some kind of freak? I was thinking about changing out the stocks because I really like the classic red wood look. Any ideas?

Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Yugo's are noted for the different rake of the stock vs other pattern AK's...I have an M70AB1 just like yours and it was a little different to shoot but I got used to it pretty quick!

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20:

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, "Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals ... Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Would changing out the stock for something like this help?

Have you tried shooting it in the air while ululating? How does it work in that mode? Maybe yours was destined for the Arab market.

You should try some insurgent type tactics, like holding it sideways in the air while running in flip flops. Tongue
