This is how you can get gun show background checks passed and get the gun lobby to agree with you.

nutshell: Write the fucking bill CORRECTLY.

Ok, I've been silent about some things for a while, lurking, reading and taking notes. I'll probably get flagged for this but it needs said. With all due respect...

...you can shove your background checks and your training requirements for carry permits and all the other bullshit up your ass.

Remind me again, is this a pro2a website, I seem to be lost in some sort of alternate reality where gun people support more restrictions and freedom loving Americans support infringements on property rights.

Look, arcticsplash, some of the things you post are great and I enjoy reading them don't get me wrong but some of the things you say make me wonder if your computer was hacked for a short period. I just can't understand the mentality, I don't mean to troll. Maybe you can help me understand.

I'll accept training requirements for people to get an LTCF when a test is required for people to vote.

They tried voting tests in the South but it didn't quite work out quite like those states planned. And now they have to get the USDOJ to approve their gerrymandering maps every 10 years.

If you listened to some of the idiots applying for a LTCF at the Philly Gun Permit Unit, you might want to rethink that.

Well beyond the very small group of people on PA2A/FOA and going to the public in general, background checks at gun shows is NOT, I repeat NOT, all that controversial.

The controversy comes in over extreme skepticism that:

A) Safe Schools Act (S.649) is just panic legislation
B) This is a stepping stone to a steady drip of rights being stripped from us
C) There's hidden stuff whenever you make legislation "bigger", don't reveal the text to the general public prior to introducing it, backroom doors, etc.

As noted by a few gun lobbyists who were working with Manchin-Toomey, they all thought they were getting their needs done in this bill, and as I pointed out, the expert SCOTUS lawyers over at Volokh Conspiracy ripped this compromise amendment to shreds.

It's a defeat for Toomey, not just Obama.

But step back for a sec and just look at background checks in general. Some people like me always buy guns from an FFL or at a store. I always have to fill out 4473s, wait on the phone, etc. The only time where I haven't done that is swapping guns between my father and one of my brothers.

Sponsored gun shows are nothing but commercial events. They are not a knitting society. This isn't a bunch of cousins all related to each other in a town of 500 people where everyone has the same surname. Is background checks being done in this venue some black helicopter shit?

No it is not.

If that is the goal, I will support background checks at gun shows or more accurately, I will not oppose it, but I want something in return. Notice how a lot of youse were warming up to the Toomey legislation when the rumor of a solid National Carry was going to be in the bill. Then the actual language was discovered and we realized it was crap.

Well, that's a sign. Put in a real National Carry that bars fucked up states like New Jersey and New York from touching my ass so I can drive to New Hampshire, legal vehicular carry, and not worry about having to go through a Federal court case where I have to prove my rights under FOPA because Officer McDumbass doesn't know the law, and you have my attention.

Isn't the whole point of all this is that Democrats are pretty much dumbasses on this topic and we are the smart ones? There's a saying in my profession when speaking in front of a skeptical customer: Dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.

We are being painted as a bunch of gun nuts who wear overalls since age 4, socially backward and unintelligent, ergo all our arguments are invalid because they're not well-formed.

Well, the only way to counteract that stigma is to show precisely how these gun grabbers do things like ignore the law, don't pay attention to facts, feign that they are open and positive to reason but then behave like hypocrites, etc. etc.

NICS checks at gun shows is not the end of the world of 2A rights. It just isn't. If you want to make that argument, that you sound just as dumb as the Dumbocrat gun grabbers babbling on about militias and don't know anything about Heller because they can't do things like read compound sentences and understand complicated information, much less what rights they do and do not actually have.

Those old 80 year old women who always seem to be in there all the time waiting for permits seem to have the process pretty down.

Then there comes in the one dude who looks like THUGLIFE and you can tell right away he's going to be showing up in the L&I Gun Permit Appeal database.

Right, those tests were killed because it was unconstitutional to put such a requirement on the exercising of a right. Kind of like requiring training to carry a firearm would be unconstitutional as well.
