For Xavier, and anyone else...

As to Xavier's handling of the incident I agree he handled it as well as he could. Although there seemed to be no over-reaction or escalation on anyone's part, once the threat of arrest was made it was certainly in his best interests to stop and get to the bottom of it all later.

Here is one of the better threads I have been able to find on the subject...

Unfortunately I don't see a lot of certainty in it. Confused

As far as the cops, they did sound respectful and just responding to the call, which I think they are required to do, no matter what.

And the one cop seemed to know the gun laws as far as OC vs CC.

Because the door did say no firearms, the people inside the building would have had the right to ask you to leave, honestly. Of course, maybe somebody can get a lawsuit through forcing businesses to serve gun carriers.....

I believe the property owner can make whatever rules he or she deems fit regardless of what agency is renting the property. If the agency doesn't like the rules, it doesn't have to rent the property.

That can get sticky. I can choose an alternative to a food store, or a toy store, I mostly can't choose an alternative to the DMV.

If a property owner wishes to enforce a ban on otherwise legal activity I would expect the DMV to locate elsewhere.

Additionally, if the prohibition stems from the property owner, then the whole property should be posted, not just the DMV.

The only thing is that I'm not aware of any regulation or law that says the Commonwealth isn't allowed to lease property from a landowner who prohibits the possession of firearms.

I think this whole issue stems from an absence of regulation or statute that specifically address this incident. It's been discussed and always seems to end inconclusively. Shrug

I have been under the impression that carry at a PennDOT center is not prohibited, and that PennDOT as a state agency does not have the authority to make such a prohibition regardless of who owns the property.

Xavier, do you have any plans to follow up on this? Like you, I am also curious to see who complained, but beyond that I want to find out whether or not the "no guns" sticker on the door is valid.

Someone from Moms Demand action could have put it there for all we know.
I definitely plan on getting in touch with the PD on Monday to see what needs to be done to obtain a report of the incident in an attempt to find the original caller. About the sticker, I was thinking the same thing when I saw it, it looks like one of those stickers those wackjobs run around sticking on doors without property owners consent.

Thanks for that one.

Either way, it sounds to me that most likely a PennDOT employee posted the sign.
