It's easy to get people behind banning scary black military looking hardware, but not so much when it's grandpas .38 special.

The news said it was a Ruger 9mm.

Police: Middle school shooter got gun from home
Associated Press
By SCOTT SONNER 2 hours ago

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say the student who opened fire on a Nevada middle school campus, wounding two students and killing a teacher, got the weapon from his home.

Washoe County School District Police said Tuesday they are still working to trace where the gun was bought. Police said a Sparks Middle School student was the lone shooter and turned the weapon on himself.

Authorities say they're not naming the student out of respect for his family. Police say 45-year-old math teacher and former Marine Michael Landsberry tried to stop the rampage before he was fatally shot. The teacher, who authorities said coached several sports, was being hailed for trying to protect students from a shooting that was witnessed by 20 or 30 children.

"I cannot express enough appreciation for Mr. Landsberry. He truly is a hero," said Washoe County School District Superintendent Pedro Martinez during a Tuesday morning news conference.

Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras said Landsberry's actions gave students enough time to run to safety.

The two 12-year-old boys who were shot are stable and recovering. One was shot in the shoulder, and the other was hit in the abdomen.

Too bad the family didn't properly secure their weapon and/or their kid out of respect for the dead, wounded, and traumatized.

One has to question what kind of family this was, that produced a 13 year old who felt the urge to shoot two of his reported "friends", a well liked teacher and then himself.

You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

Why does it matter where the gun was bought?

CNN reported the boy was being bullied by others at the school.

The same reason when a drunk drivers kills someone they look at the bar tender, liability.

Because the agenda of the Statists and the Statist media is to aggrandize the use of "assault weapons" in order to confiscate them. They realize, as we do, that "assault weapons" represent a statistically miniscule portion of firearms deaths, but represent the single most significant threat to their plans for a "new America".

The extraneous details of who votes what way, and "I support hunters", and all the other drivel is a window dressing of smoke, mirrors, and lies. The Founders knew the power of resistance lay with the armed citizen, that the only way of maintaining the Republic was to keep those same citizens armed on a near equal footing with those who might seek to become masters instead of servants.

Yes, but I also saw interviews with kids from the school who claimed they considered the two kids he shot friends of his. So putting the picture together with the information so far it looks like if they were friends they may not have been the savory type. Either way though, you have to wonder what kind of support this kid had at home if he was having enough trouble at school to push him to do what he did.

Yeah but if the gun was owned by the parents, does it matter where they got the gun, if they were legally allowed to have one?

I don't know Nevada laws though...but if they had clean records, then there's no reason they shouldn't have had a gun. So it's not the gun shop's fault (or whoever sold the gun) that somebody's kid was disturbed enough to take the gun and use it....
