You wouldn't be able to run as many people over with that car if it didn't drive as far. It should only have a 10 gallon fuel tank.

He's not. The Zimmerman case has nothing to do with Stand your Ground. He's protected by Florida's self-defense statutes that were in effect long before Stand your Ground was passed.

Stand your Ground simply removed the duty to retreat when a person is in fear of their life or serious bodily injury. Before that was passed, a person could still use deadly force if retreat was not possible. In Zimmerman's case, he was on his back and under attack when he fired, so retreat was not possible.

Hopefully the defense will make this point, which will help to "undemonize" Stand your Ground type laws. If he gets off on the basis that Stand your Ground was the defense (which is factually wrong), many states will be at risk of having similar laws repealed.

"Commits to developing incentives for states to find alternatives to such legislation, such as grants for community policing".

OK, This bill is actually saying we need more people like Zimmerman? Or am I reading this All wrong..

"Urges the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to seek to elevate the social status of black males by undertaking studies to understand and correct the underlying causes of higher rates of school expulsions and suspensions, homicides, incarceration, poverty, violence, and drug abuse, as well as income, health, and educational disparities."

Oh I see know after reading the bill Again, We Need more Black people and ONLY black people policing communities, After All it's the rich white peoples fault Chicago schools are failing according to the president of their teachers union. No profiling in that statement.. LINK

I read that as "if the federal government gave more money to the states to fund police departments, people wouldn't need to carry guns anymore!"

Our constitution says " the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It isn't about the need to carry a gun (or a knife, or a big stick, or a ninja sword, or a mace... sorry I digress). The need as well as the choice is up to each individual. Bad people or not, we still have the "right" to bear arms.

You most likely would agree with me. I'm just pointing it out because that's what the anti-gun lobby likes to say. You don't "need" more than 10 rounds. You don't "need" an AR-15. You don't "need" to carry a gun. It's not about needing to, its about the fact that we have the right to.
