New, less deadly ammo for cops
#1
What do you guys think about this? I think it may be a good idea, although it depends on how well it actually works to "stun" the bad guy.

I don't understand, though, why it couldn't be available to the general public. If it really works, then why wouldn't it be good for self defense?

Quote:Executives with a Boise-based company are poised to begin marketing a new type of ammunition specifically for law enforcement teams and designed to avoid causing serious or fatal injuries to their targets and bystanders.
The technology was created at Integrity Ballistics LLC, a company that has spent more than 10 developing and testing a round that resembles a shotgun shell. The round fires a synthetic ball that flattens upon impact and is intended to stun or subdue the target and the plan is to make it available only to law enforcement.
The idea for the product emerged in the months after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks when Integrity founder Joe Kolnik started brainstorming about ways to help federal air marshals assigned to protect planes. The goal was to develop a type of ammunition that would not cause fatal injuries to innocent bystanders or pierce the skin of a plane, yet be powerful enough to stop a potential hijacker.

Wayne Enterprises finally develops something that lets Batman shoot guns at humans!

Unless it's actually the size of a shotshell, I don't see it being less lethal. Anything that has a small diameter and travels at high speed can penetrate a harder material. Airplanes are made of aluminum and plastic. Not the most difficult materials to penetrate. Human skin would be even easier. It's why they use rubber slugs and buckshot but only beyond certain distances. Close range, they can easily kill someone. Inside an aircraft? Even a wax "blank" can kill someone.

The article says it's fired from a 12ga shotgun (I'm guessing the pic was a file photo), so unless air martials are going to be carrying those little Serbus I don't see them being used on planes. And for LEO use I can't see how it's much different than a bean bag round.
My guns have killed less people than Obama's ATF has.

I guess it's easier than teaching them to shoot well enough to not hit bystanders in the first place.
