New NFA Dealer
#1
Well, I did my homework and I will be able to handle NFA stuff come 1 July. Had a question about my fee structure and here is what I came up with:

At this point in time (1 July):

If you buy a suppressor from me there will not be any transfer fee (other than what you have to pay the BATFE to get the tax stamp).

If you order a suppressor from another dealer within PA, they will probably want you to travel to their location to do everything, but you can ask them to transfer it to me to have it transferred. You would pay them for the suppressor and then they do a no tax transfer to me to finish everything up and once approved, you pick the item you bought from me.

If you order from a dealer outside of PA, again, you will pay them for the item and they will do the transfer to me and I'll do the paperwork to give to you to do the rest. Once it is approved, you will pick up the item from me.

For either of these two cases, my fee, will be $75. It may go up or down after I see how things go. I'm going to try to keep it as low as possible.

I am in the process of talking to several distributors of suppressors and hope to be able to lock in a firm with a good selection of them prior to 1 July. At first, I will probably not have any in stock other than a couple of demo units. As time progresses, I'm hoping to carry a small stock of the most asked for items.

I'll definitely keep you in mind. I am thinking of setting up a trust and form 4ing a Ti-Rant for the new Kimber.

My SOT Tax Certificate came yesterday so I will be in the NFA business come 1 July Smile Have been studying the BATFE NFA Handbook to make sure I don't do anything wrong and asking a lot of questions to the firm that will be my distributor at this time. Get lots of good info from them.

I do have a few more questions, but I'll ask them on 14 May when I go to a BATFE seminar at Bucknell. The ATF folks will be there as well a representatives from the PSP Firearms Unit and the Union Co. Sheriffs Office. If anyone has questions that I can ask, send me an email with your question(s) and I'll see what I can get answered. Send the email here: rlutz730 (at) comcast.net. I'll print them out and take them with me.

Oh, Streaker, I'll ask about the phased plasma rifle while I'm there Smile

Cool. The local shop that sells NFA (Heritage Guild) has a huge markup on suppressor stuff... they want $200 more for an Osprey than any other online shop, same with YHM 762 & 556s.
tolerance for failure meter... LOW

Got the answers that I needed at the seminar (mainly about paperwork submissions and background checks).

Streaker - during a break I asked about the phased plasma rifle (tongue in cheek). The one agent laughed and said to submit a paper to the technical department to see what they say Wink

Ten*K - I am going to try to keep costs down as much as I can so if you have any particular model(s) you are interested in, PM me and I'll see what I can do so you can comparasion shop.

It looks like I'll probably charge $50 for a transfer if a buyer purchases a suppressor from an out of state source. The seller will have to do a Form 3 (tax free transfer to me) then when I receive the suppressor I start the Form 4 paperwork and turn it over to the buyer so they can finish it and send it and the check to the BATFE. I will then secure the suppressor in my safe until the approved form 4 is returned by the ATF. They the buyer will come by to finish the paperwork and pay me the transfer fee.

If the suppressor is bought from me, there won't be any transfer fee.

Right now, I'm looking at getting a limited number of suppressors to have on hand to help cut down the wait time. But, even for a dealer, they aren't cheap so I don't know what I'm going to stock yet. I'm a pretty small operation right now (as many of you know) so money has to be used as wisely as possible.
