New Ruger LCP @ PSA $199.99
#1
At this price there shouldn't be ANY reason why you don't have a gun on your person 24/7. I traded for the P238 but I still miss my old LCP. It always worked 100% in the two years I kept one in my work pants front pocket on the gas wells. The sights are shit, the trigger is horrid but it sure as hell beats a sharp stick.

If i had the spare cash to blow I'd have one on the way.

You are right, anything is better than a sharp stick. Ask Custer. Wait, better not ask him.

I traded my LCP for a P238. That blasted little thing drew blood on my trigger finger after shooting only two mags.

Great to conceal but good grief.

For 50 years, I have coined the expression " I can't afford to buy anything too cheap "

Its a simple Idea, but it works perfectly in this instance.

I put much more value on my life and that of my family than 199.99.

Not sure what you're implying here. That the LCP has some flaw?

No I am Not implying anything, other than over the last 50 years, I've seen the cost of an inexpensive solution to a significant application has more often worked out to cost more money, ( in some way )than had I bought a more significant tool to get the job done.

eg. I bought a torch personal flashlight that throws a blinding beam. I bought a set of Surefire 3.7 batteries for it.. they cost me 10.98 dollars for the pair. they last less than 15 minutes on full power. ( Not enough sustained power for my application.

So I bought a set of Nitecore 3.7 they cost me 24.99 and last more than an hour. I should have bought them first but now the cost of the cheap batteries and the ones I should have bought in the first place cost me a total of 36,00 dollars. So buying the cheap batteries cost me more than they should have had I not bought them at all.

IN the case of the Ruger LCP, I wont make the same mistake, because the actual cost might be life altering. It also may not, but I'm not willing to take the chance, based on 55 years of observation.

Another example, My friend bought, a knock off battery for his camera @ 9.00 dollars, I warned him ... instead of buying the Genuine OEM Sony lithium for his camera for 69.00, he bought a 9 dollar EBay battery.
It destroyed his Sony DSLR. That 9 dollar battery cost him 600 dollars.

Meaning ( cheap can be very expensive )

Over my lifetime, I have learned many life lessons. Some old guys, like myself can share some of these life lessons with others. Some will accept them, and some will scoff.

For me, one of my oldest lessons has been, " I can't afford to buy anything too cheap "

Another would be "setting up loyal patronage with a specific merchants "

You know we're not talking about a High Point or a Jennings right?

I am by far the last person to be a Ruger fanboy based on what Bill Ruger supported in the past but I think judging this particular firearm based solely upon its price is a mistake. I get what you're saying about "you get what you pay for" but that's not necessarily the case here. I have no problem admitting that my 600 dollar Sig Sauer P238 isn't as reliable as the LCP. I have to keep up constant maintenance with the Sig if I want it to be reliable when I need it. The LCP could sit in my sweaty, dirty, lint filled pocket for months and I could pull it out and fire all 7 rounds without thinking twice. I've done it numerous times. I cannot say the more expensive option to this back up gun could do the same, and I've tried this too. This gun is definitely the exception not the rule.

I actually like Ruger. (Obviously.) I have an LC9. The LCP was reliable and fairly accurate and very easy to carry. It just didn't like ME. It had way WAY too much recoil. It would have saved my life if I would have needed it to.

I did lose money trading it in, though, so in general you are right. But I was a newbie and didn't realize I should have chosen metal over plastic for a tiny gun. :-)

I do tend to try to balance quality vs affordability. The best compromise is good name brands on clearance. :-)

If you pay full retail it's more reliable.

For safety's sake, just tell them you don't want it for the sale price.

Big Grin

Shit. I paid $150 for a lightly used Kel-Tec P3AT and I trust it.
The Ruger is supposedly a more refined "upgrade" to the Kel-Tec, so I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Besides, they are sold out now.
