I would love to support the local guys but they don't support all of my firearms with the sight set that I would want... Sad

I put Ameriglo I-Dot sights on my G17 & always liked them. Since then I put the Ken Hackathorn (Ameriglo) sights on my other Glocks & much prefer the Hackathorns. The rear sight is plain black with a wide notch & the front sight has a tritium vial, surrounded by a big orange circle. When shooting, all you see is that big orange dot in daylight or the tritium at night. No distractions.

spartakis252 - That is precisely why I was looking at the standard dot instead of the big dot. Three dot sights just don't work as well for me anymore. I'm thinking that it's going to be either XS or maybe Heinie Straight Eight sights. HuhShrug
An illuminated rear sight is just not really necessary in my experience.

They don't even make sights for my Hi-Powers and one thing I want to do is consolidate across all platforms so that I have a consistent sight picture. It seems as though they make nothing for revolvers either so that really puts me behind the eight ball.

Not if you use just a front night sight it doesn't....then it's really easy to keep every sight picture the same....

But i seem to be talking to myself.

Nah, you aren't talking to yourself at all, you just missed the "vision is not quite as good as it once was" thing. If I can't make out the rear sights almost as well as the front I can't be sure that they're aligned properly. Smile

The rear sight becomes almost unimportant when your'e running a front sight only config. If you play around with one set up like that, you'll see that the rear plays a very limited role. I think it favors you if you have poor eye sight to only have 1 point of focus, honestly.

If you were in my area i'd lend you one of my pistols set up like that, and a darkened room to check it out. It's very quick once you get the hang of it.

A laser is also an extremely viable solution to poor eyesight problems as well.

I've been considering trying the front sight only setup on my revolver since it would be cheaper than getting a 3 dot system for it. I just never really carry it so its not high up on my list of wants...this thread has made me look into it, again. I have a 686SSR(Pro Series) which comes with standard 686 sights, the Model 60 Pro has a front night sight set up and I didn't think it was too bad.

The XS system kinda works on the way Valorius described, the way the dot sits you almost have to focus on it alone(by that I mean your eyes are just drawn to it which is why I find it distracting).

And it doesn't happen often, BUT I agree with Valorius that a laser system might be worth looking at.

Its hard to explain, but the pitch black rear notch becomes like a frame for that glowing front sight. Once you get used to the setup and do enough practice presentations, it is very fast and quick.

I can't remember the name of the company but they make rear sights with a laser built into it. I haven't had a chance to play with one yet but the concept seems like a good idea. XS big dot front sight and the laser rear sight maybe?
