#1
Quote:An off-duty officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor's office was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a man on a Maryland highway after the two were involved in an altercation on the road.

According to Maryland State Police, the officer, Joseph Walker, got into a dispute with 36-year-old Joseph Harvey Jr. while both were driving on I-97 in Anne Arundel County, Md., Saturday night.

Walker, 40, allegedly shot Harvey after they pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. Police said they were likely driving near each other for about a mile before they got out of their cars.

I surely hope this shooting doesn't some how become justified.

I've just added a news alert for "Joseph Walker" so I can keep track of this story.

Somehow, I don't get the feeling they are leaning toward 'justified'...

From the OP's article...
Quote:Walker, who lives in East Ampton, N.J., was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder and manslaughter. He is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.

If this had happened in NJ or even NY maybe. I could also see if it happened in either one of those States that the story would have been buried and we would have never heard about it.

Too bad this didn't happen in NYC, because Bloomberg would agree that guy should never have "annoyed" that cop by approaching him.

I'll be very surprised the district attorney down there goes ahead with prosecution. If they do, I'll doubt a jury will convict him. He'll use the defense he was scared and feared for his life. We've all heard of cops killing people in far greater contentious confrontations. It also doesn't matter anymore in today's police state Amerika that the victim was unarmed. Remember Amadou Diallo in NYC? He got shot 19 times for going to his pocket to present his wallet. The officers in that case were found not guilty!

Update to this case: http://www.newsday.com/news/region-state...-1.5797214

Quote: ANNAPOLIS, Md. - (AP) -- A New Jersey police detective has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting of another driver in a road-rage incident.

An Anne Arundel County grand jury returned the indictment Friday against 40-year-old Joseph Walker of Mount Holly in the June 8 death of Joseph Harvey Jr. of Millersville.

The Capital of Annapolis first reported the indictment on Tuesday.

Walker, a sworn officer with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office in New Jersey, will be arraigned Aug. 19. He had been released on bail on June 12. He had been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter immediately after the incident.

Just like I predicted, this cop is saying he shot the victim in self defense. And, it sounds like they overcharged with first degree murder. I still predict he'll be acquitted.
