NJ Teen sues parents
#1
God help us if this teen wins and build precedence for forcing parents to support and pay college for an ungrateful teenager.

NJ Teen Sues Mom and Dad http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/loca...12341.html

Quote:A northern New Jersey honor student who claims her parents threw her out of their home when she turned 18 late last year is now suing them.

The Daily Record of Parsippany says Morris Catholic High School senior Rachel Canning filed her lawsuit last week.

Canning is seeking immediate financial support and wants to force her parents to pay for her college education. She also wants a judge to declare that she's non-emancipated and dependent as a student on her parents for support.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday.

Canning's father, retired Lincoln Park Police Chief Sean Canning, told the newspaper that his daughter's claims are not accurate. He says she voluntarily left home in October because she didn't want to abide by reasonable household rules, such as being respectful, keeping a curfew and doing chores.

“We love our child and miss her. This is terrible. It's killing me and my wife. We have a child we want home. We're not draconian and now we're getting hauled into court,” Sean Canning said. “She's demanding that we pay her bills but she doesn't want to live at home and she's saying “I don't want to live under your rules.”

some states require you to pay for college until X age.. I don't know what age that is but I don't really see them requiring them to pay for anything else. It'll be interesting.

Really? Since when is it a fundamental human right to have your parents put you through college? What if your parents are broke?

Good grief.

At 18 arent you considered an adult? If so as RugerGirl said, what if the parents cant afford it? She can apparently live on her own so why do the parents have to pay for some insolent kid that cant obey the rules at home to take care of her anymore?

She's an adult. Why doesn't she just apply for public assistance, or commit a crime and go to jail, where she can get a free college education?
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

I'd sign her up for the Military.
That where my oldest kid is going to end up...that's probably the best thing I could do for him at this point. He just doesn't get it...everything is a joke to him, doesn't care at all. And I had such hope right up until "teenager" kicked in.

Then make 30 the new 21 and raise the drinking age.

Can't pay for insurance, you shouldn't be spending money on booze and smokes.

Just wait, they'll be suing to get that paid for as well. God forbid parents have any control over their the communities children.
