There is about as much chance of the 22A being repealed as Obama turning Libertarian.

The limit is actually ten years and people have been talking about this crap since the days after the '08 election wrapped up.

Yeah OK duly noted if a person holds office 2 yrs or less as a result of
inheriting the position, they can run for two terms for a total of ten yrs.

Yet another thing to worry about if O has a bad 2013 or 2104, The thought of Biden for ten yrs will keep me up nights.

Comes up all the time along with just one term but making it 6 years long. Even if it ever passed, which it won't, no current office holder could take advantage of it.

Ehhh. Six years is a long time for a bad President. Plus, the entire six years would be used for full agendas....as opposed to the first term of 8 years being more gently served.

Actually no. Which is why nobody really supports it. Currently the POTUS is effective for about 2.5/3 years in each term till election time. Once re elected its about the same till he becomes a lame duck. Going for one term world greatly reduce his power.

I guess it depends on who gets in....the trick is finding something fair enough that both parties grudgingly approve of.

I guess back when they came up with the original term limits they didn't have anyone lousy enough who even existed that they were afraid of the full 10 years of service. ha.

The two term limit was a tradition started by George Washington. It was honored until FDR ran for and won a third term and eventually a 4th. He was reason enough to make the two term limit a law.

Probably the only man in history to walk away from what people were hoping to be a life term. No precedent, no rules saying he had to and an entire nation begging him to continue serving.

Yep. I've read that the Kings of Europe simple did not beleive it when told.

Pure greatness we all still owe a debt too.

Found this on there. "This bill was a re-introduction of H.J.Res. 17 (112th) (Jan 07, 2011)."

Looks like someone is trying to make sure that the tree of libery wilts, and dies.

I am shocked I hadn't seen this here before.

I did do some research, and found it mentioned on that site. Best one I have found so far. Most other places are just news sites. Wanted to make sure I at least got some info before certain members call me crazy or make snide remarks.

Don't know if this is true, but I might start digging up the yard pretty soon.

Well, I am glad to see that this bill has zero sponsors!

Technically, a president that has served 8 or 10 years can the be vice-president... with a presidential "accident", the president could remain in office another 3.9999999 years. The amendment just says that he can't be re-elected as president. I don't believe it says anything about succession.

That conflicts with the 12th Amendment. It says if you're not eligible for president, you can't be vice president. So serving two terms means you can't run as someones VP later.

Thanks. I somehow missed that.

That being said, when is the last time we could vote for the VP separate from the President?

[smartass] How about Obama becomes the next speaker of the house. There could then be two "accidents" happen every four years? Rolleyes[/smartass]
