Noisy Mag

I have a S&W M&P .40. When I go jogging with it I believe it's the magazine spring that noticeably goes click each time I take a step. Is there a way to quiet this?

Dang. Saw the title and thought we were going to discuss one of Empty Mag's relatives.

What kind of holster/carry rig are you using and where is it located? Is the mag full or -1? Carry location/cant angle?

If it really is the spring then the click is likely from where it's making contact with the follower or the base plate. I'd try putting a short length of heat shrink tubing (the stuff you use to insulate a electrical wire connection) on the ends of the springs where they make contact. It shouldn't mess with the function and might quiet things down.
Ammunition, it's the new lead bullion. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Noisymag and Emptymag are synonymous sometimes, especially when talking about guns he's not interested in or photos that don't include gravel.

I have a basic leather/plastic molded IWB holster. Like a galco kingtuk - :

Mag is full.

Carry location is on the right hip, and the angle is the same as the photo.

I never knew of this heat shrink. I want to try it.

My Glock mags will rattle sometimes. If the mag rattles when when the last round is loaded I smack it on my hand. If it doesn't quiet after that I remove a round or two and load them back in the mag until the rattle stops. I assume the rounds are not nesting in the mag right and allow the spring or follower to flap around.

My HK (P7M13) double stack mags rattle also. I'm pretty sure that it is a round that is rattling, not the mag-components. The mag is radically bottlenecked from double to single stack towards the top. I think the geometry leaves the nose-end of one of the rounds with enough room to flop around a bit.

Tough to be a stealthy ninja type if every bounce results in a rattle ...

The heat shrink didn't work, but afterward doing that lead to the discovery that with exactly 10 rounds (9+1, or just 10 in the mag) the rattle stops. With 15 rounds it sounds like a baby toy rattle. There's a tiny gap between the grip, and the base plate. If I hold the base plate smashed into the pistol grip with 15 rounds then its silent. Therefore with a full mag I can manually silence the noise by pushing the mag into the grip. Sadly I'd rather carry 15+1 rounds and deal with the consequence.

Final thoughts?

Hey guys, there's a sale on ammo at Dick's next weekend!

That oughta get him going.

CZ mags also have a tendency to rattle. Mine do it occasionally, I just give them a few smacks on the ass til they stop. My mags must be subs or something.
