The NRA's American Rifleman magazine has replaced Maxim in the Alliance for Audited Media's Top 25.

According to Ad Age, Maxim's paid circulation fell from 2.5 million to 2 million last year. At the same time. American Rifleman's readership jumped from 1.7 million to 2.2. This puts American Rifleman among the top 25 magazines in circulation.

American Rifleman's increased circulation is also indicative of the NRA's growing popularity among Americans.

The NRA's Andrew Arulanandam explained: "Last year we had a 25 percent growth in membership. People who sign up for membership get their choice of one of three official journals for the NRA. American Rifleman is one of the most popular journals that we have."

It is telling to note that, while gun control proponents continue to claim Americans want more gun control in 2014, rank-and-file Americans are walking past a magazine like Maxim in order to pick up a magazine that covers bolt-action rifles, AR-15s, and shotguns.

The NRA released a statement, that they felt bad for Maxim and the American consumer. So, they are going to combine the two. Next months NRA mag will feature a pictorial of Janet Napolitano and Diane Feinstein!

I was trying to be green in 2013, opting for the electronic version of American Rifleman. Never got around to reading it hardly, except when I tripped over someone else's pre-read mag, then enjoyed the hell out of it in the can.

The review of the Kimber 1911 triplets and the Guns of the Easter Uprising almost made the membership fee worth it.

So for 2014, I went back to nasty old hard-copy, which means it'll grace my toilet-tank and get read again.

Then I'll pass the E. coli contaminated issues on to someone else Smile (Hey you want a clean read, get yer own membership!)
