Therefore, West Virginia residents with a valid concealed handgun license (CHL) may now carry a concealed handgun for self-defense in the Cotton State.

Pennsylvania: Anti-Gun Campaign Targets State Representatives Around the State
Recently, some state legislators across Pennsylvania have been the target of an anti-gun campaign to strong arm them into cosponsoring House Bill 1010. If passed and enacted into law, House Bill 1010 would expand the required background check for the private sale of handguns by friends and relatives to ALL firearms, including rifles and shotguns.

Gun control dishonesty
Earlier in the year, as the gun-control movement tried clumsily to transform an abomination into a cudgel, the Washington Post’s Kathleen Parker distilled its problem into a single sentence. “Nothing proposed in the gun-control debates would have prevented the mass killing of children at Sandy Hook Elementary School,” Parker contended plainly, “and everybody knows it.”

Chicago clerk fells armed robber, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago, Ill. 12/11/13
A man armed with a gun entered a cell phone store on Chicago’s South Side and attempted to rob the establishment. The clerk on duty responded to the threat by retrieving a gun and shooting the criminal, killing him. Police have identified the deceased robber as a convict who was paroled earlier in the year. The criminal had been serving time for armed robbery with a firearm.

BATFE Implicated in More Rogue Operations
Over the last several years, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has been plagued by mismanagement, scandal and rogue operations, the most infamous of which has been the ill-fated and deadly "Fast and Furious" debacle. Despite these ongoing problems and the criticism and calls for reform they have generated, BATFE has continued its practice of questionable tactics and judgment.

Comments Reveal Strong Opposition to Proposed Rule on NFA Trusts
In September, we reported on the Obama administration's ill-conceived regulatory proposal to further complicate the already burdensome process of transferring an NFA firearm. To recap, the proposed rule would, among other things, expand the law enforcement certification (often referred to as the "CLEO sign-off") to cover applications to transfer or make an NFA firearm pertaining to legal entities such as corporations and trusts. It would also extend the fingerprinting, photograph, and background check requirements that currently apply only in the case of individual applicants to all so-called "responsible parties" within the entity. Comments have noted the proposal's definition of "responsible party" is so broad and vague that it conceivably could extend, for example, to infant beneficiaries of a trust.

President Obama Cited by PolitiFact for "Lie of the Year"
Oops. It may be too late for many Americans, but one self-styled media watchdog is finally catching up to a reality that others have understood for a long time: We cannot take our president at his word. Though the competition was fierce, what with all the gun control initiatives floating around this year, President Obama managed to clinch PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year" dishonors with this whopper: "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it." The Affordable Care Act, informally known as Obamacare, is considered by many to define Barack Obama's presidency. If he should know the facts about anything, this should be it.

Return on investment miss: Gun control groups outspent opponents 7 to 1 on TV
In the year after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., gun control groups spent $14.1 million on TV advertising. According to Kantar Media's CMAG, that gave such groups a seven to one advantage over gun rights organizations, which only spent $1.9 million.

Dick Heller challenges D.C.'s gun registration scheme
The District of Columbia will do anything to stop law abiding people from owning firearms to defend themselves. The Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that D.C.'s 30 year handgun ban was unconstitutional in the landmark District of Columbia v. Heller decision. In response, Washington's city council put in place the most onerous gun registration requirement in the country. So Dick Heller is taking D.C. to court again in a case known as "Heller II."

Vermont: Burlington may push gun control despite preemption in 2014
It's against state law to try to regulate guns in the Green Mountain State, but city officials here are looking at what may be a loophole.Burlington wants to be able to confiscate and secure weapons for up to five days following a domestic dispute, and enact other restrictions.City Councilman Norm Blais told Vermont Watchdog the council has the authority to pass new city gun regulations because of a single clause -- "except as otherwise provided by law" -- that proceeds the state law making the firearms regulations illegal in Vermont.

New York: Attorney calls search in SAFE Act arrest illegal
More than three dozen gun rights advocates returned to City Court on Wednesday in a show of support for Paul A. Wojdan, the Lockport man who was charged with violating the state's new SAFE Act on the number of rounds of ammunition in a magazine.Defense attorney James D. Tresmond told City Judge William Watson that he believes the officer overstepped his bounds by opening the gun and searching the magazine. Hearings will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 on motions to suppress the search and dismiss the charges.

By comparison, 38 percent think gun laws should remain the same, and another 8 percent say they should be less strict.

Jersey City Mayor Plays Politics with Law Enforcement Firearms
This week, Jersey City, N.J., Mayor Steven Fulop announced a plan that would needlessly inject politics into municipal public safety procurements by adding to the criteria used to evaluate bids a questionnaire asking vendors bidding on city firearm contracts about their positions on various forms of gun control.

From His Warm, Fuzzy Paws: TSA Agent Confiscates Toy Gun from Air-bound Sock Monkey
Well, it's the holiday season, and Americans are taking to the highways, rails, and airspace of our great land to reconnect with friends and loved ones. This ushers in another, less fortunate, and increasingly common tradition: tales of security screening excess regarding anything even remotely gun-like. Civil aviation is still relatively safe and functional in this country, and for that, we are grateful. But when the screening process goes wrong ... boy does it go wrong.

Baltimore Sun Praises Maryland's New Gun Control … But Why?
Only when you have made the decision to support gun control groups for ideological reasons, even when gun control hasn't reduced crime and potentially reduces the ability of good people to defend themselves, can you write an editorial like the one that came out of the Baltimore Sun earlier this week.
das, proud to be a member of since Sep 2012.
