NRA News conference transcript ... December 21, 2012

Life member who gave a donation to NRA-ILA last Saturday morning. Just gave again.

As I posted before, not always happy with them but no one plays on the national stage like they do for gun rights. This was a far better response than even I had hoped for.

HOW?

How many gunowners are there?

The stats that are often repeated say there is almost 1 gun for every person in the US. However, I don't think there are very many actual gun owners in this country. For instance, I know a guy who owns probably 200-300 guns. That means for every one of him, there are 200-300 people who don't own a single gun. And, a lot of the people who own just one gun probably only have an old shotgun or a bolt-action .22, and half of those people probably couldn't even tell you where in the house it is at the moment.

Well guess it is time for me to give them the support I promised.

AFAIC, the louder the emotional response from people who haven't even read the press release, the better.

Every time one of these knee jerk slack jawed idiots parrots the NRA talking points, it gives it exposure. Exposure it would not get if they left it alone.

Poor fools can't help themselves. They're like rabid dogs, snapping at any stimulus.

Died in the wool progs will lap it up like opium; undecideds will think about it and we can talk to them at family gatherings.
I don't suffer from insanity.
I enjoy every minute of it.

I stopped reading when they started blaming video games. What hypocritical bullshit.

I don't get hung up on that. Their job is to ensure 2nd Amendment rights. I believe calling out video games and movies is a simply part of their political strategy:

1) Highlight that there is something in American culture that drives acts such as this. Its not simply access to guns.
2) Call out the hypocrisy of Hollywood where they make billions of dollars glorifying guns and violence and then have the temerity to blame this all on guns.

All gloves are off at this point, if they have any opportunity to say "hey, look over there. That's a problem" to take some heat off of gun rights, they will.

Exactly. Use their tactics. Change the narrative.

Fuck that noise. Video games and violent movies do not cause people to kill one another. That is exactly the same as saying that guns cause people to use them to kill people. Most people can tell the difference between a video game and a movie and their own life and the consequences of killing someone. What do you want to do, ban movies, music, video games and books in which there is violence? Lets just sacrifice the 1st amendment to protect the 2nd. Man this is some busch league shit. If the NRA really gave a damn instead of talking about video games and movies and putting armed guards in school they'd be addressing the fact that gun control isn't about protecting anyone but the GOVERNMENT. When does the NRA ever talk about the actual purpose of the 2nd amendment? Not ONCE in my life have I ever heard them talk about the fact that it is there to ensure that our government does not go into full retard fascistic totalitarian gestapo mode. Its always about self defense and hunting. Being able to defend yourself from someone trying to harm you is nice n all, so is being able to hunt, but these are anecdotal footnotes to the actual purpose of having an armed citizenry.

Topsy: I agree with your intent of 2A for citizens to protect themselves from an out of control government. But if you make that the NRA's main argument right now, watch them and every other gun owner get ridiculed and laughed off the political stage. Think of the press headlines about a group of people going full retard against the US government. You know, the government people voted to expand and take more control of things in the last election.

Right now there's a lot of political posturing from all sides. NRA is going to do what they can to protect 2A rights without looking like a bunch of callous, out-of-touch, gun toting, plotting to overthrow the gov't idiots.

Topsy:
A fair number of NRA membership are FUDDS. We know what 2A is about, many many others feel it is about the hunt. Numbers count, and we need every one we can get. If the NRA starts sounding like an anti government group, people will start labeling ALL of us as tin-foil wearing anarchists.

Make no mistake, we are at war. The survival of 2A is the penultimate prize. Read Sun Tzu The Art of War: the art of war is deception. Wayne was threading a needle yesterday. Dont be the knot that snapped the thread.
