Quote:A 16-year-old Middletown High School football player wanted to buy the new Air Jordans on sale Saturday morning at the Dayton Mall.

But Jawaad Jabbar got there too late and the shoes were gone. So Jabbar tried to rob a pair from another shopper, police said, and he paid with his life.

"The juvenile wasn't able to get in line in time or whatever to get some of these shoes," Miami Twp. police Sgt. Jay Phares said.

So Jabbar went outside to the sidewalk and pulled a gun on a man who had just bought the shoes, Phares said.

Only, the man had a gun, too.

"The person who he tried to take the shoes from had a valid carry concealed weapon permit through Ohio, and when he was threatened with a firearm he drew his firearm and discharged it into the juvenile, who then died as a result of a single gunshot wound," Phares said.

Jabbar, who went by JJ, moved to Middletown from Columbus to live with his father. People who knew him said he was well mannered.

"He was a real good kid. Hurt my heart to hear it happen," said James Murphy, whose son and Jabbar were friends.

I can't believe that 30 years (or however long they've been sold) later people are STILL killing people for those fucking shoes.

I wonder how many have died for Jordan's shoes?

Maybe they should be banned? I mean, "if it will save just one life it would be worth it."

I'm tired of thugs being made into angels. How about the real victim here? The guy that has to find a way to live with taking a life now?

This.

Every article I could find had to spin the story to say he was just another dindonuffin innocent child who was taken from us. What a joke.

I even read that the mall may even press charges for carrying against policy too.

Glad the good guys won this time though. Talk about a good shot considering he was able to pull his gun and shoot while the perp was aiming one back at him. That right there amazes me.

But they won't say anything about the criminal carrying against policy.

Quote:Jawaad moved to the Middletown City Schools District from Columbus earlier this school year, and was a sophomore on the football team, school officials said. Earlier this year, he was charged with petty theft for allegedly stealing Pop Tarts, two plates of fried chicken, a Snickers bar and a plate of sushi from Kroger, 3420 Towne Blvd., according to Middletown police reports obtained by this newspaper. Two other juveniles and MHS football players were charged with petty theft, according to police reports.

Jawaad also was charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly punching a Hamilton High School student at a basketball game, and he was in possession of a “small baggie of marijuana,” while at school, according to police reports.

The Rev. Michael Bailey, pastor at Faith United Church and linkage coordinator at MHS, said Jawaad has been suspended at least twice for his actions. Bailey said he was “blown away” when he heard Jawaad, a soft-spoken student, was allegedly involved in an attempted robbery over a pair of tennis shoes.

“How did I miss this?” Bailey asked. “I never saw this coming.”

Sorry Rev, the signs were there, you chose not to see them. Now let's review those 10 commandments you should have been teaching him, Thou Shalt not Covet, Thou Shalt not Steal, Thou Shall honor thy mother and father...

"But he was a good kid" is all you hear in Philly when some tween gets popped or gets clicked that it's cliche--you almost expect to hear it.

Did they release a picture from years ago so he looks like an innocent baby like they did with Trayvon? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
