The Obama administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says it should be a federal crime to refuse to hire ex-convicts — and threatens to sue businesses that don’t employ criminals.

In April the EEOC unveiled its “Enforcement Guidance on the Consideration of Arrest and Conviction Records,” which declares that “criminal record exclusions have a disparate impact based on race and national origin.”

If he wants private companies to hire ex-cons then the government run prison system needs to do a better job rehabbing convicts. It would be nice if we could give convicts a second chance to become productive citizens, but the reality is that hiring an ex-con is a big risk. Too often you end up with a guy peddling drugs or stealing at work. When I was doing a lot of hiring ex-con applications immediatley went to the bottom of the pile. As an employer, why should I take on additional risk?

Then why won't the federal gov't hire convicted felons?

After all, most politicians are crooks.

You know, I was just thinking something similar.

I know, how about this: all of the prisoners from Guantanamo Bay can be hired to work in the nations nuclear power plants! I mean, how's that for equal opportunity. Rolleyes

Seriously, though, there are reasons some people don't get hired. I am all for giving someone a second chance, but some people need to show their trustworthiness first. Also, not every occupation should have convicted felons in it...

Will they be suing the Fed, the NYSE and many other large financial institutions for not hiring your average street level felon?

There are tons of great jobs out there for ex-cons. Especially down south.

I have an easy solution. Ship out all the illegal immigrants and give those jobs to ex cons. Factories and Fields are perfect for ex-cons. They prove themselves for a few years until they have something decent on their resume, and then maybe they can find another job.

I guess that's too logical, though, for liberals. Since they feel sooooo sorry for criminals who abuse kids and rape women and steal and murder, that they deserve to jump right back into society in a better job than when they left off. Dodgy (Since, geez, how many of them had good jobs when they GOT to prison, anyway? Some, yeah, but as a rule???)

They can't be politicians. Politicians are criminals who generally haven't been convicted yet.
