Obama restricts military-style equipment to police

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/05/...to-police/

Quote:In previewing the president's trip, the White House said that effective immediately, the federal government will no longer fund or provide armored vehicles that run on a tracked system instead of wheels, weaponized aircraft or vehicles, firearms or ammunition of .50-caliber or higher, grenade launchers, bayonets or camouflage uniforms. The federal government also is exploring ways to recall prohibited equipment already distributed.

In addition, a longer list of equipment the federal government provides will come under tighter control, including wheeled armored vehicles like Humvees, manned aircraft, drones, specialized firearms, explosives, battering rams and riot batons, helmets and shields. Starting in October, police will have to get approval from their city council, mayor or some other local governing body to obtain it, provide a persuasive explanation of why it is needed and have more training and data collection on the use of the equipment.

Some of this make sense but it looks like Michael Moore is getting his wish.

Yeah that's all fine and shit, but the cops not being able to swing their dicks around will just lead to more frequent calls for National Guard. The equipment will still be there, just instead of painted black, it will be painted tan.

Okay...

1: The militarization of police is a problem, but it isn't just about equipment. It's a mentality issue due to the high number of veterans in the police force. Nothing against what a warrior does over there, but there are different and frequently ignored ROE here because of that mindset.

2: Many people have been complaining for years about the firepower of the militarized police. Nothing bigger than .50 caliber? What the hell does a cop need anything that even that big for? A .50 is an anti-materiel weapon, and police don't need to destroy evidence or private property from a mile away. Belt fed machine guns? Grenades? What the fuck, Chuck? Good riddance.

3: MRAPS... We're our LEOS encounting lots of mines durning patrols? Why the shit did anyone ever think a vehicle that can't do 70mph, uses gallons of fuel per mile, has an exhorbitant maintenance cost, and destroys pavement as well as any tank would be a good idea to run down Main Street? Recycle every last one into border fencing. Don't let the door hit ya where the lord split ya.

4. Drones. Seriously? Did we even need to have this conversation? If you run a department that's not covering large expanses of wilderness that frequently sees children getting lost because they ran out of breadcrumbs, I could see it. Maybe. Otherwise, these things are nothing but flying jerk off machines.

5. Civilians. Do you fucktards understand that the first part of that word is CIVIL? That means enough with the stupid rioting. There has not been one riot in FOR EVER that has been justified. If you are going to act like a horses ass because some shitbag got himself killed fighting the cops or because your dumb fucking sports team and/or college won or lost some dumbass game, seriously... Go jump in a volcano. Enough of you. And if you do decide to go primal, then I thoroughly encourage all the brothers and sisters in blue to come and give you a good wooden shampoo. Although PR24s are all plastic now, but the gist is the same.

All that money that has gone to heavy occupation weapons should go to training, community resources, and body cameras.

The police should simply be able to own whatever the citizens are able to own, nothing more. I honestly don't have a problem with them owning MRAP's and armored vehicles, because that is more of a defensive thing than offensive. There have been a lot of crazy people barricading themselves in houses and firing at the police, so I don't blame them for wanting some kind of bullletproof vehicles. But at the same token, citizens should also be able to buy MRAP's, which they are not AFAIK. That's a double standard that needs to end.
