Obama Will Ban Guns without Congressional Approval
#51
Everyone keeps making a huge deal about the UN treaty talks starting again. They were already going to restart talks after the election. They decided that as soon as the previous draft of the treaty was scrapped. The NRA is making a big deal out of it now so they can take advantage of the election ferver. They're in it for the money.

Do you have a link to a news article to support the statement bolded because I am certain that it is false.

After the massive pressure on the July 27 meeting, the treaty was scrapped and a different "lower profile" method that started in 2001, was relaunched, a Program of Action. The quote below is one that I posted on a forum where I was tracking the issue.

You'll note that I linked to the relevant documents, in particular, the Outcome Document, which was posted around Sept 7, 2012.

So now, since Obama has won, that PoA seems to be back on hold and the Treaty is resurrected. I'd be very interested if you have credible contrary information.

The way I see it, this is far from a "what's the big deal, it was going to happen anyway" situation. This is a consequence of reelecting Obama and his socialist agenda.

---------------------------
This treaty is not exactly dead. Since, as a result of public pressure, it failed to make it out of committee in July 2012 the U.N. leadership has decided to take a different road in order to disarm us. It has resurrected a 2001 “Programme of Action” instead. A PoA is a set of actions that member states agree to adhere to. That is, they agree to enforce existing national laws that support the recommended actions, and if such laws do not exist, to pass them.

So the U.N. went back to a 2001 PoA called the “Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects” and was able to get a renewed commitment to it from the membership, along with a new “Outcome Document”. While most provisions seem benign and appeal to common sense like ensuring that states clean up after war and pick up war zone guns & ammo, some are more questionable.

For example, paragraph II.9 states:

“To ensure that comprehensive and accurate records are kept for as long as possible on the manufacture, holding and transfer of small arms and light weapons under their jurisdiction. These records should be organized and maintained in such a way as to ensure that accurate information can be promptly retrieved and collated by competent national authorities.“

To me, that sounds a lot like a National Registry. While of course we citizens are not directly subject to these U.N. required actions, our government has committed to passing laws that do implement them. So, we will face a constant barrage of gun control bills, judicial decisions, policy decisions, and Executive Orders leading toward compliance with U.N. rules. We then must report back to the U.N. routinely on our progress toward full compliance.

Obama’s Gun Ban List Is Out

Here it is, folks, and it is bad news. The framework for legislation is always laid, and the Democrats have the votes to pass anything they want to impose upon us. They really do not believe you need anything more than a brick to defend your home and family. Look at the list and see how many you own. Remember, it is registration, then confiscation. It has happened in the UK, in Australia, in Europe, in China, and what they have found is that for some reason the criminals do not turn in their weapons, but will know that you did.

Remember, the first step in establishing a dictatorship is to disarm the citizens.

The democrats do not have all the votes they need to pass anything.

In fact, they do not have the votes to pass ANYTHING without extensive R cooperation.

It says that because this chain mail was generated when the democrats had both the house and Senate. No ban list was put into law.

They could have, and there's not a damn thing the R's could've done about it.

Thank god they were more concerned with the socialist take over of health care.

Thanks for the citations. I wish I had this quote before the election. It would have been further proof of their intent.

Everything that I had found showed a shift in tactics, with the resurrection of the 2001 PoA. A so-called "dead" negotiation took some of the wind out of the sails of those opposed to the treaty.
