Obamacare dumbed down
#1
Ok, so one of my coworkers is a diehard Obama supporter. Her biggest reason is that he started Obamacare, which is going to give her and her kids coverage when she retires in a few years.

Her belief is that there is no real middle class anymore, and that the poor will benefit from having healthcare given to them while the upper class is forced to pick up the tab.

Now I'm not the most read up on all of this, but that just doesn't seem right. Isn't the healthcare reform actually forcing you to either get coverage on your own or face a penalty in the form of taxes so that you can get the government's healthcare? If that's so, then how is that helping the lower class afford anything when you're forced to pay out one way or the other? Before I changed jobs I was barely able to afford buying milk, let alone health coverage. Adding more taxes wouldn't have helped either, so how is this helping the middle and lower class?

Another article that's been shared also points out that the healthcare reforms are cutting $200 billion in Medicare benefits. However, there's $8 billion being pumped into it this year to delay the effects of those cuts so it's not being shown until after the election. So, is the healthcare reform really as great as anyone thinks it is?

So, am I anywhere on target or am I off my mark? Can anyone please just explain how the hell this program is ideally supposed to work and how it looks like it's actually going to happen?

What makes her think that free healthcare is being given to her? She simply MUST maintain insurance, or be taxed heavily by the IRS, up to almost $1000 per person within a few years when the penalty is fully implemented.

Please explain to me where the "free" part comes in. The only difference is now there's a big fat fine if you don't have insurance.

This is exactly what I said, but it's only fallen on deaf ears so far. Some folks only want to hear what they want to hear, and won't understand until it actually happens.

last year medicare advantage was somewhere around $100 a month

in 2012it jumped to around $125

in 2013 it goes to $247 a month ....i'm not sure of the exact numbers but i know they are close

that is a significant increase for someone on a $1,000 a month fixed income and will effect their already low standard of living.

this is what the 8 billion dollars is masking from the seniors and obumacare is counting the seniors ignorance to these numbers for his re-election

if you can print out some articles and give her something to read and that should spark her interest enough to investigate for herself.

just telling someone in a work environment will not sway an opinion. until they see it on paper will they will believe the lies spewed from the main stream media.

But they already do, and always have. Nothing changes except that now if you DON'T have insurance, you pay a massive fine (once fully implemented).

At this time i would like to extend a warm and hearty fuck you to both Barack Obama and Chief Justice John Roberts.

Well I figured that I'd need to show something more concrete than just word of mouth, but I wanted to make sure that I'm understanding this correctly first.

So as not to seem completely biased, is there anything positive coming out of Obamacare?

I think universal healthcare is great, but this seems more like buy your own or get a tax penalty for not having it, at which point we (the government) will provide you with healthcare funded by the penalty tax. So, really, it's not free, unless you don't pay taxes.

Right! Lately I've been thinking how nice it would be to be a Progressive.

All you have to do is wake up every morning & think great thoughts like, "Wouldn't it be just peachy if everybody had free health insurance!"; or, "It be groovy if nobody was ever hungry!"; and on & on & on.

What they choose to ignore is that the government cannot provide anybody with free anything, without first taking it from someone else. We're fast approaching the point where there are more people in the wagon, than there are pulling it. It's all going to collapse when the provider class decides to "go Gault."

It's mind boggling to think that anybody in their right mind would invest hundreds of thousands of dollars & 8-16 years of their time to go to medical school, so they can work in socialized medicine for wages the government decides to pay. Now that would require a real hardcore socialist.

I know and so do millions in this country, but how are you expecting they will fine someone who doesn't have anything? You can't draw blood from a rock.

Ok, but is my basic premise correct?

You have the option of buying your own healthcare, receiving it from your employer, or get penalized in the form of taxes for not having healthcare.

If you don't have your own, then you will get government healthcare that is funded by the penalty taxes, and probably more drawn in from other programs' funding.

The healthcare reform is actually cutting benefits to things like Medicare in order to fund the healthcare being offered by the government.

The lower class is screwed because they're forced to pay money they probably don't have unless they're under the taxable income bracket.

The only ones benefiting from this are going to be the ones that don't/won't pay anything to begin with and are already on welfare programs.
